??The DOT Studio, in collaboration with New York City Department of Transportation and New York City Economic Development Corporation, has officially wrapped! We’re proud to have collaboratively launched NYC’s first public e-bike charging stations across Manhattan and Brooklyn for delivery workers—a pivotal milestone in the city's "Charge Safe, Ride Safe" initiative. This studio piloted cutting-edge solutions from Swobbee, Popwheels, and Swiftmile, including the United States’ first battery charging and swapping network, along with a number of open-air bike charging racks. Since launching, delivery workers have completed over 10,000 battery swaps and nearly 1,200 on-site e-bike charges at pilot locations! Learn more about the pilots in the video below:

We're thrilled to share the success of our public micromobility charging program with partners New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC)! This initiative marks a significant step forward in providing affordable and dependable electric charging for food delivery workers! ??♂??? Launched five months ago, the pilot program features cutting-edge technologies from our member startups: Popwheels, Swiftmile, and Swobbee. These include improved e-bike batteries, a battery charging and storage swapping network, and open-air bike charging. Since its inception, the program has seen over 8,000 battery swaps and nearly 1,000 on-site e-bike charges at pilot locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The program has not only boosted productivity for delivery workers but also enhanced safety by reducing the need for home charging, a key component of Mayor Adams' 'Charge Safe, Ride Safe' initiative. We're honored to have played a role in enhancing safety for New York's delivery drivers! In just 5 months, New York City Department of Transportation's successful e-bike charging program has significantly reduced the need for home charging and allowed delivery drivers to operate more efficiently. Kudos to Newlab for bringing together Swobbee, Popwheels, and us to build a safer, more sustainable transportation ecosystem in NYC!?? ??

Paired with a trade-in program for unsafe devices and an FDNY education campaign, this initiative marks a major step towards safer, greener transportation! ??????

Bravo to the New York City Department of Transportation, New York City Fire Department, and the Mayor's Office for advancing three new initiatives to stop the battery fires and support sustainable micromobility in NYC. Last week, I joined the panel discussion of the Pedal Power for the Green Economy event, organized by the NYC Office of the Mayor and hosted by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. I appreciated the opportunity to share how the New York City Department of Transportation's work advances the City’s economic and sustainability goals. Some highlights include: ? Encouraging the transition of package and grocery deliveries from trucks to e-cargo bikes. Recently, Diniece Mendes, EIT A.M ASCE’s team rolled out new rules allowing bigger e-cargo bikes (= more packages per trip) and creating a new curb reg for dedicated #ecargobike loading zones. ? Updating our bike lane designs to accommodate the growing adoption of electric #micromobility. Last year, Paula R.’s team started piloting Micromobility Lanes at 3rd Ave, 10th Ave, & 11th Ave in Manhattan. These are wider, protected bike lanes with layover zones and bike parking. ? ? Piloting on-street, #ebike charging infrastructure to support commercial cyclists while promoting fire safety. We are wrapping up the fourth month of our battery charging pilot program, which is serving 100 food delivery workers and testing direct-to-consumer battery swapping cabinets (by Popwheels & Swobbee) and charging docks (by Swiftmile). Congrats to Aaron Charlop-Powers for organizing a successful event.
