Last week, the Lee County Mental Health Court Team had the privilege of hosting visitors from the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Missouri! Their team—including a judge, probation officers, a peer support specialist, a treatment provider, and their coordinator—traveled to Fort Myers through a grant to observe Judge Jospehine Gagliardi’s Mental Health Court in action. Their goal? To gain firsthand knowledge and strategies for enhancing their own programs. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions, openly sharing feedback on the court process, challenges, and successes. Additionally, our visitors had the opportunity to observe Veterans Treatment Court and Drug Court with Judge Nicole Mirra. These exchanges help shape the future of specialty courts by sharing best practices and new perspectives. Civics students from Mid Cape Global Academy had an unforgettable day at the Lee County Justice Center, where they stepped into the courtroom to experience the legal system firsthand. Under the guidance of Lee County Judge Nicole Mirra, these future leaders participated in a mock trial of Big Bad Wolf vs. Curly Pig, sharpening their critical thinking and advocacy skills. This hands-on experience wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of Judge Mirra and two of our 20th Circuit Assistant State Attorneys, who helped bring the courtroom to life for these students. This position involves complex administrative and secretarial duties to manage a County Court Judge’s office. It requires knowledge of County Court rules and procedures, including civil and criminal traffic, domestic violence, misdemeanors, small claims, and county court cases. Responsibilities include managing the judge’s calendar, scheduling hearings, trials, and coordinating courtroom assignments and support personnel. Additional duties involve reviewing case files for compliance, monitoring case statuses, and preparing reports to ensure adherence to time standards.
