This panel will discuss preserving a community's unique heritage through reactivating three historic buildings. Roslyn began as a mining town in the late 1800s. A fire destroyed the original downtown in 1888, but it was quickly rebuilt. The Harper Lumber Buildings were constructed in 1895 and 1925, and Harpers Lumber was a significant presence in the community for decades. In 2019, long-time Roslyn property owner and developer John Brian Losh purchased the buildings with the intent to restore them to their former glory. The article dives into the unique process of turning a historic bank into a climbing gym, recreation, and co-working space. It’s a great example of how creative design and structural solutions can breathe new life into unlikely places.

AIA Washington Council awarded the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe Hatchery and Beach Shelter with a Civic Design Award! The 1,800 SF, two-story building includes office space for the tribe’s salmon hatchery program, including an egg incubation room, water-quality testing, and filtration equipment. and an open-air structure used by the tribal commercial fishing operations.
