Fun Fact: I have a Master's of Science in Social Work from Columbia University with a concentration in Social Enterprise Administration. I am forever grateful for the lessons, connections, and friendships I gained from CSSW. . . We spent the first year of training focused on individualized clinical supports. I was always praised for how well I held space with folks. #Tbh it's a gift. But while in school I wanted to focus on macro reforms and develop my skillsets for managing systems. . . 4 years ago yesterday I received my degree. I didn't fully connect the dots back then. I often said doulas were like the social workers of the birth world: you don't know how much you need us until you experience us. But as I've matured as a doula and entrepreneur/business owner, I see the connection is deeper. I use my micro and macro skills on a daily basis to help clients experience the reproductive justice they deserve. I also want folks to leave my care feeling empowered, supported and loved. I run a business, but the social impact will always be my truest measure of success. #sweetbeedoula #sweetbeeservices #blackdoula #socialworker #birthworker #cssw #alumna #columbiagrad #mastersmami #reproductivejustice #entrepreneur

It's been an eventful summer over here! Read more from our CEO.
August was a month full of milestones, connections, and celebrations! ?? On August 5th, I had the privilege of speaking at the National Head Start Association's Early Childhood Innovation Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah. We explored the critical role doulas play in addressing birth disparities and their ripple effects on early childhood development. I was honored to represent The National Black Child Development Institute and our work on behalf of Black children and families. ?? On August 29th, I spoke at the Blacks In Technology Foundation Black Business Month Celebration. I was excited to share about our new app designed to tackle hypertensive disorders, like pre-eclampsia, and post-partum mood disorders like depression. The two mentioned are of particular concern as top contributing factors to maternal mortality. I'm incredibly proud of the work we're doing to support maternal health and reduce disparities. ?? We welcomed four new little bees into the Sweet Bee Services hive this month! Our Client Care and Doula Teams have been phenomenal, providing a mix of in-person and virtual doula support to ensure each family receives the care they need. ?? The Social Innovation Lab at Johns Hopkins University Alumni mixer on August 15th was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with other founders in the Baltimore ecosystem. It's always inspiring to be surrounded by such passionate and innovative minds. ?? Sweet Bee Services is growing! We welcomed three new team members, and I can’t wait to introduce them on our website soon. ?? Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Ignite Capital Showcase on September 20th. Meeting with our Innovation Works Baltimore partners has only heightened my excitement for what's to come! ?? I'm honored to have joined the Advisory Committee for the Morgan State Center for Maternal and Family Health Research (CMAFH) and look forward to attending the Birthing in Baltimore: Community Convening & Lunch on Friday, September 6. Register here to join me: https://lnkd.in/dN4TpqgK ?? August was also a time for personal celebrations—my birthday, birthdays of family and friends, the weddings of loved ones, and a productive board meeting with Chris Swanson and Jon Farley of C-IMPACT. Looking forward to an equally full and impactful fall season!

Come join us to support our CEO this week as she shares how we're making moves to end maternal mortality!
?? Reflecting on a week filled with inspiration and impactful conversations! ?? Last Thursday, I had the privilege of attending the Maryland Maternal Mortality Summit hosted by Maryland Patient Safety Center at Coppin State University. It was truly encouraging to be surrounded by passionate individuals equally committed to addressing the pressing issue of maternal mortality. Listening to my colleagues share their insights and ideas reaffirmed my belief in the power of community collaboration. Then, on Saturday, I had the opportunity to join LaQuida Chancey and Kadija Hart of Project Healthy Communities/Walk with a Doc-Baltimore at Lake Montebello. Engaging with fellow healthcare workers, social workers, entrepreneurs and community members, we discussed the myriad ways we can collectively make a difference in combating maternal mortality and other healthcare disparities. One key highlight was discussing the crucial role of doulas in providing support to birthing people. It's evident that our presence and advocacy can significantly improve maternal health outcomes. Plus, these are skills clients use for years to come. I'm also thrilled to announce the upcoming opportunities to showcase our work at Sweet Bee Services. On Tuesday, I'll be pitching about our initiatives at the United Way of Central Maryland for the 2024 Changemaker Challenge, and on Thursday, my cohort will be presenting at the Social Innovation Lab at Johns Hopkins University. These platforms provide us with invaluable opportunities to amplify our efforts in addressing maternal mortality and advocating for comprehensive maternal healthcare solutions. I'd love for you to be my guest this week! Your support and presence would mean the world as we work towards creating positive change in maternal healthcare. Let's come together and make a difference! ?? #MaternalHealth #CommunityImpact #SalamaWellness #SweetBeeServices Tuesday Registration Here: https://lnkd.in/ey3tPFVB Thursday Registration Here: https://lnkd.in/ezUNaWJe
