Great times as a panelist for Invenergy’s Lunch and Learn today. This event was sponsored by Black and Brown at Invenergy (BBI), led by Reine Rambert, Manager of Global Public Affairs. Stephen Hempel, Sr. Director of Business Transformation, did an excellent job moderating the discussion. It was an honor to be on a panel with non profit experts like Evelyn Kuo Fitzgerald, Executive Director of SVP Chicago, and Priya Shah, Executive Director of The Simple Good. Today we discussed the unique ways we are as leaders investing in our youth, nurturing hope, and creating opportunity in some of Chicago’s most overlooked communities. As a leader in this work, sometimes you can feel like you are at it on your own, and sometimes you feel like a team of the Avengers assembling. Today was the latter. It's Ladies of Virtue's 13th anniversary!!!!!! Every year I select a word for us to live by and this year it’s ….Authority. We are walking into our God-given authority to get everything that is pre-destined for us! Our head is held high in every room because we know who we are! The work we are doing now will impact generations to come! Over the last 13 years, I can honestly say that the sacrifices, the tears, the long nights were all worth it. So many memories… - Like after taking off 2 days of work, we still only had 6 girls on our 1st day 12 years ago. I was so disappointed. - Or when we had $900 in our account in year 1 and I was in tears cause I didn't know how we would move forward. - I can't forget year 4 or 5, when I had to subsidize part of our LOV Retreat for our girls with my credit card cause grants were taking all day to come. - And the day I went full-time was truly a leap of faith but that 6 months of savings went quick. When I had to cash in my pension, I knew it was getting real. Soooo many sacrifices. Sooooo many tears. Soooo many years of uncertainty. But here we are! Started with 6 girls and now we serve over 2,000 women and girls annually! I am amazed at each and every one of my LOV Sisters who are out here doing their thang. They are mothers, college graduates, veterans, students, financial analysts, nurses, teachers, doctors, entrepreneurs, researchers and I could go on. Ladies of Virtue is truly the village that has helped thousands of girls become confident and purpose-driven leaders. Ladies of Virtue would not be the organization it is today without God, our Board, mentors, volunteers, staff, parents and donors. We are Ladies of Virtue! Happy 13th Year Anniversary!! I love LOV!

Yesterday Pastor Phil Jackson had the privilege of witnessing a pivotal moment in history as President Biden and Vice President Harris unveiled groundbreaking, life-saving measures to combat gun violence! These courageous actions will: ?? Tackle emerging threats posed by firearms ?? Enhance school-based active shooter protocols ?? Implement stricter regulations on ghost guns and trafficking ?? Invest in community violence prevention and hospital intervention programs ?? Fortify suicide prevention initiatives ?? Expand support for survivors ?? Strengthen background checks for individuals under 21 ?? Safeguard against domestic abusers accessing firearms ?? And so much more! This marks a significant stride toward cultivating safer communities and fostering enduring change. Together, we have the power to put an end to gun violence!
