There are huge opportunities for technology and innovation to create an impact on the Mass Participation Industry and we can’t wait for the culmination of the inaugural GSIC powered by Microsoft MPW Innovation Challenge next week at MPW24. In August we called for “problem statements” from the industry and recieved 41 from the likes of World Athletics, Chicago Event Management, London Marathon Events, njuko, International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and Run Calgary. These were curated to 12 problems and shared with tech providers and startups to provide potential solutions. See the problem statements through the link in the comments below. We were delighted to receive 52 submissions from 19 countries. After a two round judging process we are excited to have invited 10 finalists to share their solutions with delegates and potential investors at MPW24 in Ho Chi Minh City next Friday afternoon. Recently, three of our Bekoji Athletic Scholars - Ebise, Sifan and Mimi - competed in a race and finished with such excellent times that they were recruited to join the highly competitive Deratu Tulu Sport Academy! They will stay in dormitories and continue their education while gaining access to high-level training, teaching, research, study rooms, a modern gym, and a venue that can accommodate 5200 spectators. Congratulations to these student athletes!

It was a privilege to discuss Stanford University's future in #AI and health with several luminaries at the Stanford Center for Digital Health (CDH) Symposium this week. As well as catching up with Sumbul Ahmad Desai, MD, VP of Health at Apple (and one of our faculty in the Stanford Department of Medicine!), I was lucky enough to sit down with Stanford's new President Jon Levin and Fei-Fei Li. We discussed the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) the Stanford University School of Medicine Raise Health Initiative, academic compute, equity in digital health, and much more. With data and new digital tools, we have unprecedented opportunity to improve the health of billions of people. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here at Stanford at this moment in time.
