This Veterans Day, St. Vincent de Paul honors those who have served our country, especially those who have continued a life of service through volunteering. At 92, Korean War Era veteran Gus Suhr spends every Monday volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul’s Phoenix Dining Room in downtown Phoenix, sorting donations, serving meals, or sweeping the campus. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, serving in Germany during the Cold War. After his service, he returned to Santa Clara University, played professional baseball in the New York Yankees minor league, and later built a 30-year career with Chevron. In retirement, Gus moved to Arizona and found purpose in volunteering—a commitment he’s upheld since 2005. For Gus, service is a lifelong mission. “All of our lives would be changed if it wasn’t for the veterans,” he reflects. No matter how old you are, or how much time you have to give, SVdP has volunteer opportunities for everyone. Find your calling. This morning, we had over 1,300 supporters attend our Restoring Hope Community Breakfast at the Arizona Biltmore. Together, we celebrated how SVdP serves as a light of hope for those in need, through stories of resilience and messages that touched everyone present. Our CEO, Shannon Clancy, shared recent milestones, including reaching our Housing 2025 goal early and expanding transitional housing at SVdP. Attendees also heard the powerful stories of two individuals who, with SVdP’s support, have found health and stable housing. And how could we forget the highlight of the morning when 50 healthcare providers and SVdP clinic doctors joined together on stage, presenting a basketball to our featured patient, Luis, symbolizing hope for his continued recovery and their collective work that helped save Luis's life from a rare cancer. Relive some of the best moments from our Restoring Hope Community Breakfast and join us to help feed, clothe, house and heal. If you didn't get a chance to donate today at our event, you still have a chance. Plus, your gift will be doubled thanks to a $750,000 matching opportunity! Found out more here: https://lnkd.in/g74hn7Pf Thank you to all who joined us at our event and in our community to continue the important work of SVdP's mission. God bless you, all. #RestoringHope

We're still feeling elated from our CEO Shannon Clancy’s recent ATHENA Award win! Her words of wisdom at the Greater Phoenix Chamber award luncheon were so meaningful that we just couldn't keep them to ourselves. Watch the video and let Shannon's message inspire you to be a “champion” in your family, workplace, and for those who may never have had someone to champion them. Enjoy! ??

We are over the moon and so proud to announce that our CEO, Shannon Clancy, has been honored as the winner of the prestigious 37th Annual ATHENA Public Sector Award by the Greater Phoenix Chamber! This international recognition celebrates women who not only excel in their professional careers but also lead with heart, inspire other women, and dedicate themselves to making an impact in their community through service and leadership. ?? Shannon accepted her award with her signature grace and humility, emphasizing that we should continue to lift each other up and be champions for those who don't have the loving support we may have had in our lives. We couldn’t be prouder of Shannon and the compassionate leadership and mentorship she embodies every day. Her service and commitment to feeding, clothing, housing, and healing those in need are an example that continues to inspire other women and community members to follow in her footsteps. Congratulations Shannon on this well-deserved recognition! ??

Last Friday was a truly special night for SVdP at the Greater Phoenix Urban League's 60th Annual Whitney M. Young Awards Dinner! We are grateful to be recognized by GPUL as the 2024 nonprofit honoree. We were selected for the "Defeating Poverty" piece of the awards theme this year, which was “GPUL in 3D: Defending Democracy, Demanding Diversity & Defeating Poverty.” Whitney M. Young Jr. was a civil rights leader who dedicated his career to end employment discrimination in the United States and turning the National Urban League from a relatively passive civil rights organization into one that fervently and vocally pursued equitable access to socioeconomic opportunity for the historically disenfranchised. Thank you to our incredible staff who attended the event in representation of the entire SVdP family of staff and volunteers whose diverse talents and passions drive our mission to feed, clothe, house, and heal those in need. It is everyone's collective efforts that made this award possible! ??

Yesterday, SVdP hosted the Arizona Housing Coalition (AZHC): Maricopa County Member Mixer, bringing together passionate leaders in the fight against homelessness. Guests enjoyed a light breakfast prepared by our kitchen team, led by Chef Hoffman, and were inspired by our mission shared by our dedicated staff leaders and CEO. Attendees also toured our interim housing communities, gaining a deeper understanding of the work we do. We're grateful for everyone who joined us to share meaningful insights into the work that they do to help our most vulnerable community members around the Valley. It was great seeing everyone connect and taking the time to reflect on their collective efforts.
