Virtual coffee conversations with service designers, researchers, and product designers at companies like?Figma?and?Snap Inc.?gave students additional insights into the current landscape of the industry. ?? Swipe through for highlights! Special thanks to: Shanti Mathew, Matt Raw, Tina Ye, Jess Mireau + Lauren Diamond Kushner and your teams for graciously welcoming ixD students into your studios and offices, and to all designers who participated in coffee chats with our students ?? In Mixed Reality, a course taught by Violet Whitney, students used Procession—a natural language programming environment for creating interactive, real-world experiences created—to prototype "natural interfaces" with Multimodal AI. Procession is a project of Spatial Pixel, the research design studio co-created by Violet Whitney and William Martin. Spatial Pixel's mission is “to empower people with digital and spatial agency.” For their project, Sammie Lee, Het Nagda, Suvina Wahane created a shared calendar to easily schedule meetings. Back in October, ixD students collaborated with the amazing team at Noun Project, along with partners Disability:IN and Canva, to develop a new collection of accessibility-focused icons for the public domain. The aim of this ~Iconathon~ event was to fill crucial gaps in iconography by representing terms like "accessible communication", "curb-cut effect", "alt text", and many more. 50+ participants gathered in the ixD studio and created over 150 sketches over the course of the day. After sketching, they worked together to vote on the icons that most clearly represented each term. Now, the final collection of 25 icons is available for download on the Noun Project website: https://bit.ly/4igvCNi *The collection is free for everyone to use as public domain.* Check out photos from the Iconathon and read more about the design process at this link: https://bit.ly/3CWKRw5 Special thanks to Lindsay S. at Noun Project!
