As the Gulf Coast begins to recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Milton, it won't be long until we're reading stories of people being taken advantage of by so-called "roofers" who arrive just in the nick of time to help but end up doing more harm than good. To raise awareness and help prevent scammers from hurting you or someone you know, please share this post and the following tips: 1. Beware of "Contractors" Claiming Official Endorsements Avoid anyone who claims to be an "official," "certified," or "approved" roofer of any insurance company or FEMA. No such approvals or special designations exist! Most insurance companies allow any actively licensed Florida contractor with appropriate insurance to perform emergency repairs or re-roofs. 2. Beware Signing Over an Assignment of Benefits Do not sign over an assignment of benefits that allows a contractor—even a licensed and insured one—to receive your insurance proceeds without a clearly written contract that includes a detailed scope of work. The last thing you need is to unknowingly relinquish your benefits to a scammer who plans on cashing in and disappearing before starting or even completing the job. 3. Verify Contractor Licenses & Insurance? Always verify credentials and licenses through official channels to ensure the contractor is properly licensed and insured in Florida. You can verify licenses through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's website. An unlicensed contractor may do substandard work and leave you liable for injuries or damages. 4. Be Wary of Upfront Payments Be cautious if a contractor demands large upfront or full payment before work begins. While a reasonable deposit is standard, substantial upfront fees could be a red flag for potential fraud. 5. Consult Your Insurance Company Directly Before agreeing to any repairs, call your insurance company! They will provide guidance on the necessary documentation you need to ensure that you comply with all policy requirements or riders. These tips might seem like common sense to many. However, when emotions are high and you're dealing with severe damage or total property loss, it's easy to forget or even dismiss them. Scammers have made millions by disarming your better judgment and taking advantage of you. Stay vigilant, do your due diligence, and seek advice from trusted professionals who can't just take the makeshift sign they duct-taped to their pickup and ride off into the sunset. As our President, Doug Sutter, recently posted, "Please support your local roofing contractors who will stand behind their work and be there for you after the storm. We have many good ones in Florida. Don't fall prey to storm chasers and bad actors out for the quick buck." Thank you for sharing this post and protecting people from falling for scams during this challenging time. #SafeSolidandSecureSince1902 #hurricanemilton #disasterrecovery #facilitiesmanagement #propertymanagement #scamalert

In todays roof adventures. One of the many reasons to have your roof inspected after a heavy windstorm is to catch potential damage early. Although Hurricane Helen was at a distance from the Naples area, it still caused some issues. Thankfully, we spotted problems before they escalated into something more serious.

As the forecast for soon-to-be Hurricane Helene draws closer to the Gulf Coast of Florida, the chances of property damage caused by storm surge, flooding, and power loss, and property damage continue to rise. Currently, forecasters predict Helene will intensify into a Category 3 storm as quickly as Thursday. ? As with any hurricane, the safety of our employees and their families remains our top priority. While it's too early to tell the storm's overall strength or path, our team continues to monitor the situation across all our offices, so we can help our customers once conditions clear and roads are safe to travel. #HurricaneHelene #hurricanepreparedness #tampabay #sarasota #hurricaneseason
