Every year, thousands of women commute between Morocco and Spain in agriculture - under what conditions? Last week, during the stakeholder dialogue with Moroccan workers at the NGO Radev in Morocco, we were able to learn so much about realities of life that are so far away on the one hand - and so close on the other. Because ultimately we are concerned with the same issues - jobs, money, family, relationships. We actually wanted to find out as part of appellando how Moroccan harvest workers in the circular migration with Spain - 17,000 (!) in the Larache region alone - use their mobile phones. Do they have a smartphone? How does WhatsApp work for illiterate women? Our approach: Workers should be trained on their rights and obligations via Sustify. So that they know that they can get help in the event of non-compliance with labor standards on farms that are part of appellando's grievance mechanism. So much is discussed in eLearning about how to motivate users - but here the women were simply thrilled to be able to learn about labor standards at all. "Now I'm no longer afraid to work in Spain. I know that I will be helped if I have a serious problem. I am infinitely grateful." Talking to a woman who had been sexually assaulted by her employer and then desperately called a hotline without ever being returned is one of the moments that give me the strength to follow my path as a social entrepreneur. We are starting our pilot project with 200 workers. And we hope that more and more farmers, intermediaries and retailers will realize that fair working conditions are part of sustainable economic success - with or without legal requirements. ?? A big thank you to appellando GmbH, RADEV (Réseau des Associations de Développement), Oxfam, Réseau LDDF - INJAD contre la violence de genre, Valentin Vilanova García, abdeljalil laroussi– and especially to the women I met in Morocco and of whom I am not posting photos here in order to protect them.
