What happens when you introduce #bitcoin to over $3 trillion AUM of the world’s leading climate investors? ?? ?? #NYClimateWeek wraps up, the team at Sustainable Bitcoin Protocol wanted to share some of their highlights, takeaways, and next steps on our mission to mobilize climate capital into BTC and unlock its clean energy potential! ?? SBP co-sponsored the Sustainable Investment Forum by Climate Action alongside leading green bitcoin miner MARA for the first time ever. The Forum is convened by United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) ahead of #COP29 and brings together sustainable finance leaders from Norges Bank Investment Management, United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), and more. Delegates heard from experts including American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE)’s Lesley Hunter, Principles for Responsible Investment’s David Atkinson, and CDP’s Sherry Madera - MARA’s Brad Tomm shared that they have completed the industry’s 1st-ever CDP report! ?? ? SBP held two dialogues moderated by Forum Chair Mark Barton, first on Bitcoin’s potential role in climate finance with SBP's Bradford van Voorhees and Mara's Jayson Browder, MPA, as well as Bitcoin’s Challenges and Opportunities for Decarbonization with MARA’s Christopher Ruppel and SBP’s Elliot David ????? ??? 邓宏远. At the beginning of the talks, nearly every delegate in the room believed that bitcoin was inherently unsustainable, but by the end of the sessions investors were asking to learn more about bitcoin’s possible role in the energy transition. ? SBP also ran a booth to help investors understand how they can invest in bitcoin for unbeatable returns while driving the energy transition. We even ran a #BitAxe bitcoin mining device to demystify bitcoin mining and held a raffle asking climate investors to guess what % of global energy is consumed by bitcoin mining (more on this to come)! ?? There were plenty of takeaways from the 1st-ever bitcoin conversations at a major climate finance forum, but to name a few. Bitcoin is a largely misunderstood asset class, especially with respect to climate and energy even for the most sophisticated investors - education works. Institutional investors want transparency and auditable data in their sustainable investments - the SBC could be a huge unlock for trillions in climate capital. ??
