The outdated dams have been removed and salmon are returning -- salmon that support Tribal ways of life and a multi-million-dollar economic engine via commercial and recreational fishing. Returning salmon also reduce the regulatory burden on ranchers and farmers in the upper basin. Sustainable NW, the Klamath Tribes, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited and others have been working with ranchers and farmers in the upper basin for decades to also do some common-sense projects that ranchers and farmers want and need -- conserve water, conserve energy, and restore wetlands where it makes sense. But it's all at risk of falling apart now because, as this writer notes: "In the past month, the Trump administration suspended funding authorized in the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other Biden-era legislation for the wetlands restoration and other Klamath projects, and laid off U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employees who facilitated those projects." https://lnkd.in/gW8HqqnS
