Motors and VFDs: How They Work, When They Fail, and What You Can Do Most of us know the basics of motors and VFDs. You put a VFD on a fan or pump motor and either vary or decrease the speed of the motor, and you save gobs of energy. But there is more to it than that. By adding a VFD to power a motor you are adding more complexity to the system and now there are more ways the system can fail. The motor could fail on its own, as can the VFD, but working in tandem, they can fail in even more ways. So how do you prevent this? And then there is the topic that a friend of mine has been wrestling with this past week. Does a 50 HP supply fan motor running at 100% speed supply the same CFM as a 100 HP supply fan motor running at 50% speed? Well, it does not, unless the 100HP is specified differently. These are the topics that I'm going to cover in John Avina's next webinar. Come join us at 10 AM Pacific on Wednesday, October 16 to increase your knowledge of VFDs and Motors. https://lnkd.in/g6kje4eW

It has been customary for business owners and managers to work with one consultant for purchasing energy and another consultant for help with identifying and implementing projects that reduce energy consumption. The problem with this arrangement is that energy efficiency projects can impact energy purchase contracts in ways never intended by the business owner/manager. Sustainable Energy Services solves this problem by serving customers on both sides of the utility meter. SES’s mission is to help its customers minimize the risks inherent in the energy purchasing process as well as when implementing projects that reduce energy consumption. SES’s objective and independent energy experts serve as the owner’s representative, which allows SES to bridge the knowledge gap that can exist between building owners and energy suppliers or technical contractors/engineers. SES also works with owners when planning new construction. New buildings that are more energy efficient have greater market value as well as lower monthly utility bills.

PJM posted a Max Generation Alert for Tuesday Aug. 27 for Power Generators
PJM has issued a Maximum Generation Alert and Load Management Alert for Aug. 27 ahead of expected hot weather across many parts of the Eastern Interconnection, including the region PJM serves, to ensure the reliable delivery of electricity to its customers across 13 states and the District of Columbia. No customer actions are required. PJM issues a Maximum Generation Alert a day in advance of conditions that may require all generators to operate at their maximum output capability. PJM is issuing the alert as a precautionary measure in the event exports of electricity outside of the PJM footprint need to be curtailed. Read more at PJM Inside Lines. https://lnkd.in/eJTQRAuR

When one of our senior care facility customers called us about elevators shutting down and other power related issues. We responded by placing data loggers on their power. Based on the results we recorded, we specified and installed power surge suppressors on the main utility panels and other sensitive loads. Here you can see 3 of the 16 surge suppressors we installed. Problem solved! No more unexpected elevator shutdowns.
