Watershed customers continue to break new ground in building the climate economy. Today we announced a cohort of customers contributing to a $200M investment in sustainable aviation fuel through our partnership with the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA) and Alaska Airlines. SAF is our best near-term opportunity to draw down aviation emissions, but the sector is in its infancy and needs demand to scale. That’s where our customers—including BlackRock, Ripple, Samsara, and Block—come in. As I said to Michelle Ma for Bloomberg companies won’t tell employees to stop traveling to customers or clients. A nice call out to SABA in this recently published blog by the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia | SIPA, describing the potential role of private sector initiatives such as "buyers clubs" in driving the transition to clean hydrogen based on the success of our model within the sustainable aviation fuel market. Of particular note, "…demand-side coalitions can aid in aggregating demand, connecting buyers and producers and creating economies of scale while driving market interest." It also notes the effectiveness of SABA's approach in overcoming the cost premium associated with low carbon alternatives. With many preparing to board flights for #VERGE24, an excellent start to the week with this morning's announcement from?World Energy, LLC and SABA founding partner RMI. This purchase of sustainable aviation fuel certificates is part of the recently announced collection of deals facilitated by SABA representing about 50 million gallons of SAF. Together with our members, SABA's strong demand signals to the market are helping to grow adoption of SAF and incentivize future production - all with the aim of decarbonizing the future of flight.
