Through Sustainability Roundtable, Inc.’s Net Zero Consortium for Buyers (NZCB), seven world-leading companies have signed an aggregated virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Southern Company for the renewable energy credits produced by the 180 MW Phase II portion of the Millers Branch Solar Facility in Haskell County, Texas. This long-term procurement enables the financing and development of the 180 MW solar project owned by SPC, and the project is expected to achieve commercial operation in the second quarter of 2026. Cisco, Juniper Networks, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Cadence Design Systems, IDEXX, PTC, and a large healthcare company joined this agreement, which democratizes access to the commercial and environmental benefits of utility-scale renewable energy by making procurement accessible to a broader range of enterprises. This aggregation is one of the largest peer-buyer organized aggregations to date globally. Today's announcement reflects the fact that the NZCB has achieved 86% of its goal of causing a gigawatt of new renewable energy capacity before 2025. Reaching NZCB’s gigawatt goal would generate enough energy to meet the annual average electricity needs of more than 200,000 U.S. homes while helping mitigate commercial Scope 2 emissions across the business operations of corporate buyers. This transaction demonstrates how the NZCB offers a breakthrough model for commercial collaboration in causing utility-scale renewables, beginning in North America and Europe.?

We’re honored to welcome Professor Stuart L. Hart as the lunchtime keynote speaker of Summit for Sustainable Business VIII: Decarbonizing Corporate Global Operations! Professor Hart will discuss his new book, Business Beyond Shareholder Primacy: Remaking Capitalism for a Sustainable Future. Professor Hart’s book offers a call to action and a beam of hope amid the bleakness of human-caused climate breakdown. The shareholder primacy capitalism that brought us here, he argues, is in the process of transforming into a radically more sustainable, more just economic system. He looks to economic history to argue that capitalism has already changed twice since its fifteenth-century inception -- then offers a framework for how sustainable business advocates can advance the shift to a model based on positive impact. His book predicts, and calls for, a Third Reformation of Capitalism predicated on multi-stakeholder value creation and more sustainable business. Currently a Professor in Residence at the University of Michigan - Erb Institute for Sustainable Global Enterprise, Professor Hart has led the conversation on sustainable business (and sustainability in business education) for decades. Since the early 1990s, he has founded or co-founded multiple sustainable business graduate programs, including the Erb Institute’s dual master's degree. His academic career includes over 100 papers, nine books, and over 50,000 citations. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Summit VIII to discuss his new work, including how it intersects with the morning’s complementary conversations around Dignity-First Leadership. What is the Summit for Sustainable Business VIII: Decarbonizing Corporate Global Operations? SBER Member-Clients will convene on December 6 at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C., for a full day of case-based, best-practice insight based on SBER’s 2024 Executive Guidance & Tools. Collaboratively developed and iterated with SBER Member-Clients, this original management research is available nowhere else. Backed by our shared-cost strategic advisory services, this premier executive Summit works to set the enterprise sustainability agenda for 2025 and beyond. Invitation-only and vendor-free, it supports sustainability executives in moving toward the "next-level" sustainability leadership our world desperately needs. Space is limited. Directors of Sustainability and those responsible for decarbonizing global operations at operating companies are encouraged to request an invitation: https://lnkd.in/eMAVJzeY #SBERSummitVIII #Sustainability

SR Inc Member-Client Synopsys Inc has signed a VPPA with Southern Power for 90 MW of the Millers Branch Solar Facility in Haskell, TX, through the Net Zero Consortium for Buyers! Thanks to Synopsys’ past VPPA experience with the NZCB, Synopsys completed its procurement in record time: under three months. James Boyle, David Osborn, Jeff Meltzer, Julia Rothfield, and the rest of the NZCB team enabled Synopsys to identify the most cost-effective, low-risk transactions that have resulted in two VPPAs for purchaser-caused renewable energy. We congratulate Synopsys for taking this substantive step toward its emissions reduction targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. A special shout out to Eugene Brown, Sustainability & ESG Director, and Erika Varga McEnroe, Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel. Does your energy attribute certificate (EAC) procurement process cause new renewable energy capacity? At stake, James Boyle and Sarah Lehan argue, is the global energy attribute certificate (EAC) market’s integrity. To underline this urgent and undervalued need to center causation, they examine: - Why the 24/7 Carbon Free Energy vs Emissions First debate falls short - Why and how the industry must differentiate between three distinct EAC categories (explained with some help from the local waterfowl) - Three conditions that, if met, conclusively establish that a clean energy procurement caused new renewable energy capacity If the world is to meet the UAE Consensus' call to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030, corporate procurements must focus on CAUSING new renewable capacity – like the SR Inc Member-Clients who have together caused over a gigawatt (DC) of new renewable energy through our Net Zero Consortium for Buyers. Learn more why Purchaser Causation is essential to EAC market integrity on the Sustainable Leadership Blog! #VPPAs #CorporateSustainability #CleanEnergy
The Question that Counts in Corporate Renewables: Why aren’t we asking how corporate procurements can cause new capacity?
