In the past week or so, the new federal administration has removed many important roadway safety resources. Two key resources that have been recently removed: - The main?Complete Streets page on the Federal Highway Administration’s?website had been removed—erasing decades of research, case studies, and proven solutions. Currently you get a "The requested page could not be found" message and no explaination for why it was removed. ?https://lnkd.in/guHPYETd - The?Road to Zero Coalition, a national initiative providing resources and support to advance the goal of reducing traffic fatalities to zero by 2050, was also shut down. Their website currently says "We regret to inform you that as of Jan 30, 2025, the Road to Zero Coalition has received a Stop Work Order from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. We are seeking clarification from NHTSA on the nature of the order, but for now the Coalition’s work has been put on hold indefinitely." https://lnkd.in/gmr3AXKq? Both Complete Streets and Road to Zero are non-partisan initiatives that are focused on improving roadway safety and saving lives. Why is the new administration removing life-saving resources? Resources that American taxpayers have paid to develop? Resources that communities want and need? As a reminder, over 40,000 people die every year on America's roads. This is not normal. No other developed country in the world has this kind of level of traffic violence. We are an outlier - in the worst possible way - and our new administration is now taking away vital resources to make our roadways safer. Please call your federal representatives and let them know that safety and resources to improve safety are not partisan. https://lnkd.in/gzuaw5Fr Edit: The Road to Zero tools and resources are back up now! Your city probably has 100 reasons why housing reform is 'impossible.' Cambridge just proved them all wrong. Let me show you what real change looks like: Cambridge just passed the most aggressive housing reform in modern US history. Not New York. Not LA. A college town in Massachusetts is leading the way. Here's exactly what they did: ? Minimum 6-story buildings allowed everywhere in the city ? Completely eliminated parking requirements ? Removed all setback rules ? Scrapped complex density restrictions that made building impossible Look at these maps: ? All those yellow patches (low-rise only zones)? Gone. ? Green areas (6+ stories) take over the entire city ? The whole map opens up for new housing But here's why this matters: Most cities just talk about fixing the housing crisis. They form committees, carry out studies and make promises. But Cambridge actually did something about it. They found the exact rules making housing expensive and hard to build. And they got rid of them. This is what housing reform looks like: ? Bold, dramatic changes (not tiny tweaks) ? Applied city-wide (not just downtown) ? Immediate action (not endless planning) The housing crisis needs solutions at this scale. No more half-measures. Which city do you think should be next?

Cities can be designed for cars or for people. This fundamental choice drives countless other decisions that change the way a city functions for everyone. Here's a comparison of two cities with dramatically different designs. One results in much less driving, far fewer cars, and a significantly safer experience for pedestrians and cyclists. Despite the high population density, almost all buildings are 5 stories or less, not high-rises. BREAKING: I’m hearing the great Donald Shoup has passed away. Few urbanists can really be called game-changers, but Shoup powerfully changed how we see parking rules and their huge affect on cities. The recent revolution in parking standards was inspired by his unique work. Thank you Donald. #RIP

I just want to say to all my federal employee friends and colleagues out there that what I read in the news sounds terrible. I see you and you don't deserve to be vilified for doing your job and serving the country. While the going looks rough for you right now and your effectiveness may feel limited, I think having good people doing good things in government is more important than ever. Thank you for your work, do what you need to do, and take care of yourselves.

Safe charging saves lives. Today we announced that building owners and tenants will soon be able to apply to install e-bike/micromobility battery swapping and charging cabinets on sidewalks to reduce charging inside apartment buildings. Details:?https://bit.ly/49Y5iol
