Survivors of Torture, International was founded in 1997 to build a healing community for survivors of politically motivated torture living in San Diego County. SURVIVORS has served more than 3,000 torture survivors from 90 different countries.

SURVIVORS' Executive Director Etleva Bejko recently sat on a panel discussing the implications of the current administration on immigrant and refugee health at the 2025 San Diego Refugee and Immigrant Health Summit at the University of California San Diego. Spreading information about the current chaotic attacks on our county's most vulnerable populations is essential to improving potential health systems and their subsequent outcomes.

We do not get the privilege to showcase our client therapeutic work often because we care deeply for their confidentiality and safety but we were lucky enough to capture our Mens Group therapy vision boards for the 2025 year. Our clients were asked to use different mediums and build a collage that represented their visions for the next year. They had so much fun and built some beautiful work while also gaining therapeutic benefits.
Thank you so much to our friends and community partners at the Period Poverty Project for donating to our clients community store! Most of our clients live 250% below the federal poverty line and do not have the resources to purchase basic hygiene items. Donations like this are essential to our clients meeting their basic needs.

Over the weekend SURVIVORS staff attended the Center for Immigrant and Refugee Health Inclusive Education: Improving Academic Success and Promoting Wellness for Afghan and Ukrainian Refugee Students Conference in Sacramento to continue to learn and improve our Health Education and Literacy program!
