Hyaluronic acid (HA) plays a crucial role in skin hydration and elasticity, but its concentration decreases with aging due to factors like photoaging and HA metabolism. One key factor in HA degradation is the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and free radicals. This study evaluates two antioxidants — glycine saponin isolated from soybeans and glycyrrhetinic acid found in licorice extract — for their ability to enhance HA production and prevent its breakdown in cultured dermal fibroblasts. Results demonstrate that glycine saponin stimulates HA synthesis, while glycyrrhetinic acid reduces HA degradation by 54%. These data suggest that adding antioxidants to a hyaluronic acid-based moisturizer is a next-generation approach for enhancing HA topical formulations. "We’ve turned hospitals and doctors into subprime lenders without assets." In one sentence, Mark Cuban cuts straight to the heart of what’s broken in American healthcare, and this 4 minute video clip will summarize everything that’s wrong. Mark is a brilliant communicator, and perfectly captures the hidden consequences of what is ultimately a moral victory: ?????????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ???????????????? ??????????, ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????? ??????????. And as an ER doctor, much of this comes from EMTALA, the law that says we don’t let people just die on the streets. In the ER, we’ll see you no matter what. But because EMTALA is an “unfunded mandate” —?meaning the government won’t pick up the tab if you can’t pay — doctors and hospitals have to just take on a ton of “subprime” risk (and debt). And how do hospitals balance their books if a third of the time their services are essentially free? ???????? ???????? ???? ????????????. Then Cuban exposes the vicious cycle between payors and hospitals: ?? Hospitals Inflate Prices: To offset unpaid bills, hospitals charge inflated prices to insurers who they know will pay. An MRI might cost $450 for cash-pay patients, but if billed to insurance? $2,000. ?? Insurance Companies Benefit: Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), insurers must spend 85% of premiums on healthcare costs. Higher hospital prices mean insurers can justify higher premiums—and take a larger profit. ?? Patients Lose Twice: Patients face inflated bills they can’t pay, leading to bankruptcies. Meanwhile, cash prices are often cheaper than insured prices, making the system feel completely ????????????. I will say this until I’m blue in the face: honestly at least a third of ALL the healthcare spending in the US is just to counter, pivot, and adapt to the fundamentally broken system. Payors do this? Insurers do that.? Doctors do this? Pharma does that. The rules of the game clash with the values of our people—and this friction leaves everyone, from patients to providers, deeply unhappy with what we’ve built.

  • True Self refers to the innermost essence of who we are: a core identity that is often beyond the layers of thought, emotion, ego, and physical body. True Self is pure awareness or consciousness that exists independently of the fluctuating experiences of the mind and body. You can think of it as the “space” in which thoughts and experiences occur, but it itself is not affected by them. In many spiritual practices, this awareness is often equated with being itself or your core, unshakeable essence. When we begin to align with our real nature, we experience a profound sense of peace, freedom, and joy. The turmoil of the mind, with its constant judgments, worries, and desires, fades in comparison to the tranquility of recognizing our deeper nature. This allows for a state of inner stillness and contentment because it is not influenced by external circumstances or inner fluctuations. From a health perspective: the skin is the body’s largest organ and a reflection of our inner state. If the mind is full of negativity, stress, or unprocessed emotions, it can manifest as skin issues. 4 simple steps: ????Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness or meditation into your daily routine. This can help reduce stress, a common cause of skin problems like acne and eczema. ????Nourish from Within: Focus on a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that support skin health. Hydrate well, and avoid processed foods that may exacerbate inflammation or skin issues. ????Wholistic Skincare: Use natural skincare products that align with the health of your skin. Health is not just about the external treatments; it’s about nurturing and respecting the skin as part of your whole being. ????Cultivate Compassion for Yourself: practice self-love and acceptance, it can alleviate the mental strain that often leads to skin issues. #trueselfglow #holisticskincare #mindfulskincare #selfloveandskincare #wellnessforskinandmind #nurtureyourskin #beautybeyondskincare #innerpeaceouterglow #soulfulskincare #surrasaskin #surrasa Disclaimer: this is for educational purposes only! Why Skin? I get asked this question a lot. Do you work with skin only? My answer is always no, as skin health is a reflection of our internal issues. As an Ayurvedic practitioner, my training and practice enables me to perceive beyond the surface manifestations of health issues and gain insights into the deeper underlying imbalances within the body. Ayurveda emphasizes a holistic approach to health, considering not only the physical symptoms but also the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of well-being. Ayurveda helps me to take a comprehensive approach to understand the body and its internal functions. Rather than merely treating symptoms, Ayurvedic methodologies aim to address the root cause of imbalances within the body to promote holistic health and well-being. I am passionate about skin and skin research. Skin is the largest organ of the human body, serving as a protective barrier between the internal organs and the external environment. Skin performs several vital functions, including regulating body temperature, protecting against pathogens and harmful UV radiation, sensation, and excreting waste through sweat. Both modern medicine and traditional systems like Ayurveda recognize that skin often reflects internal health conditions. Various internal disorders or imbalances do manifest on the skin in different ways. Here are a few examples: *Nutritional deficiencies: Inadequate intake of essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals can lead to skin problems such as dryness, flakiness, or even conditions like dermatitis. *Hormonal imbalances: Fluctuations in hormone levels, such as during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause, can affect the skin. Hormonal acne, for example, is often linked to changes in androgen levels. *Digestive issues: Ayurveda and many other traditional medical systems emphasize the connection between gut health and skin health. *Autoimmune diseases: Conditions like psoriasis or lupus are autoimmune disorders where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, including the skin. *Liver and kidney problems *Stress and emotional health: Emotional stress can exacerbate various skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis. *Allergies and sensitivities. Cacao powder, rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, is thought to have significant anti-aging potential. In this study, cacao powder was found to increase hyaluronic acid production, act as an antioxidant, decrease collagen-degrading MMPs, and enhance collagen synthesis in vitro. In a 12-week clinical trial, cacao powder taken as a daily supplement resulted in an improvement in skin hydration and a reduction in periorbital wrinkles. • Phenoxyethanol has become a common ingredient being used in formulations that promote themselves as Ayurvedic. Phenoxyethanol is a common preservative used in cosmetics, skincare products, and personal care items. It is generally considered safe when used in low concentrations, typically up to 1% in cosmetic formulations, as per regulatory authorities like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). However, let’s look at some of its not so good side effects: ??Some individuals may experience skin irritation or allergic reactions, especially if they have sensitive skin. ??High concentrations can cause adverse effects such as skin irritation, nervous system toxicity, or reproductive toxicity. ??It should be avoided in products that children might ingest. ??Phenoxyethanol can damage the central nervous system, leading to symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and depression. Use of these ingredients with natural herbs and extracts is of concern and how they interact with natural herbs needs to be considered. For example, sodium benzoate when mixed with ascorbic acid (vitamin C), can create benzene, a chemical that may cause cancer. Ayurvedic skincare often uses natural preservatives such as neem, turmeric, and rose water. Use of modern ingredients is probably okay if used thoughtfully and safely to address various concerns while respecting Ayurvedic principles of balance and wellness.
