Coughlin Porter Lundeen is proud to collaborate with our design-build partners from ZGF Architects and Abbott Construction on Jefferson Healthcare’s campus renewal in Port Townsend. A Critical Access Hospital with sustainability top-of-mind, the compact renovation will substantially upgrade medical care for this small coastal community. Structural Project Manager Laura Lindeman, PE, LEED AP BDC was recently featured in the Peninsula Daily News outlining cost-neutral strategies and outcomes of efforts that were made to minimize carbon emissions throughout construction. “If you’re looking at the life cycle of a building, there’s a bunch of carbon associated with creating the building itself. How are the building materials impacting the environment as you’re bringing it on site and as you’re building your structure? For Jefferson Healthcare, we had a lot of challenges and opportunities related to reducing embodied carbon,” shared Laura. And according to Jacob Davidson, COO of Jefferson Healthcare, “they really knocked it out of the park.” Check out the full Peninsula Daily News article to learn more:?https://lnkd.in/g-WP8_-d

Civil and structural engineering firm focused in the Pacific Northwest.
关于我们
WHO WE ARE Coughlin Porter Lundeen is a civil and structural engineering firm. Focused in the Pacific Northwest, we partner with clients across markets to bring unique project visions to life. We were founded with the goal of exceeding the standards and services provided by engineering firms, and today, more than twenty-five years later, that vision continues to guide all that we do. WHAT WE DO We provide an exceptional product in our drawings and designs, but to us, “exceeding standards” means much more. It means understanding a project’s big picture and employing a comprehensive vision to lead and manage coordination among design partners and contractors. It means streamlining the process. It means being accessible, authentic, and genuinely invested in every project. Quality and exceptional service are the cornerstones of our business, which is why we take the time to get things right- every drawing, every detail, every time. HOW WE DO IT We approach engineering differently. We choose projects that require imagination and ingenuity, and see ourselves as much more than a traditional consultant. Our team functions as a key part of the core team, regularly exceeding the standard scope of our discipline and redefining what it means to be an engineer.

A leading expert in seismic retrofits, Structural Principal Bryan Zagers weighs in on office-to-residential conversions.
Great article on housing conversions in Seattle. We're very pleased to assist Orton Development, and others, as they navigate the myriad code issues involved with office-to-residential conversions. Seismic resilience is an important issue in our region, but doesn't have to be an obstacle to making these worthwhile projects move forward. https://lnkd.in/gz5GNmjc

After designing more than 90 fire stations and training facilities across Washington State, we know a thing or two about great fire facility design. We also have a huge amount of respect for what firefighters do in our communities every day. The best way that we as engineers can show our appreciation is by creating thoughtful, effective spaces for firefighting teams to thrive. We are honored that the City of Kirkland and TCA Architecture + Planning + Design have trusted us to work on five recent fire stations. While each presents unique needs and challenges, there are undoubtedly best practices that serve as pillars of great fire station design. In our latest edition of The Connection, Mike Armstrong and Jackie Sempel outline five Kirkland fire stations that reflect best practices and our “keys to success” when creating smart, effective environments for firefighters. https://lnkd.in/gpwAN2BT #firestation #firestationdesign #firesafety #firefighters #bestpractices #keystosucess #structuralengineering #civilengineering #engineering

Last Thursday, project team member and Structural Associate, Jason Whitney, P.E., S.E., helped tour the AIA Seattle Mass Timber Committee through our Asa Mercer International Middle School Replacement project. A shining example of mass timber construction, the new Beacon Hill school will accommodate 1,000 students in grades 6-8.? “I really enjoy bringing mass timber to PreK-12 projects. The user excitement is so rewarding and it’s a pleasure giving tours and sharing the product with the AEC design community. At Asa Mercer International Middle School, one of the most striking and prominent design features are the double height sloping timber columns that utilize tie rods to reach down and support the second-floor framing. This feature required thoughtful planning and coordination with the architect and contractor to get it right. Great work by all parties to make concept sketches into a reality.” - Jason Whitney, P.E., S.E., Structural Associate. Asa Mercer International Middle School is expected to open Fall 2025.
