A North Korean #threatactor, Jumpy Pisces (also known as Andariel), appears to be collaborating with Play #ransomware group. Although the link is not necessarily surprising, this is the first known connection between the two groups. North Korea is known for conducting financially motivated attacks as a way of funding government initiatives. We have also seen Iranian #threatactors acting as initial access brokers in recent months, so the link between #nationstates and ransomware groups is blurring. These incidents occurred between May and September. A compromised user account was used to gain access and ended with Play ransomware being deployed. They also deployed tools for stealing browser data. ?????? ???? ???????? ??????????????????? - Ransomware groups and nation states usually have distinct motivations, but when they collaborate, the types of organizations at risk may shift significantly. - Nation states often possess capabilities beyond those of ransomware groups. This could lead to the use of new #zeroday #vulnerabilities in ransomware attacks or expanded targeting of more secure organizations. ????????? ???????????? ?????? ????? - Regularly review the tactics, techniques and procedures of ransomware groups to assess your #security controls and how they would strengthen your defenses. - Fully enforce multi-factor authentication (#MFA) across your attack surface to reduce the likelihood of a successful ransomware attack. #cybersecurity #ransomwareprotection
