What do you believe about homelessness? At SupportWorks, we believe that homelessness is solvable. Last week, several SupportWorks teammates attended one of our favorite events of the year - Virginia Housing Alliance's annual Housing Virginia's Most Vulnerable Conference. SupportWorks was one of the event sponsors, so Executive Director Allison Bogdanovic had the opportunity to introduce our new brand to attendees, including this video shared during her remarks. It helps continues to tell the SupportWorks story as we embark on this next chapter ?? Support builds. Support transforms. Support Works. https://lnkd.in/ePy24dBp

The Community Impact Team hosted an incredible AUB Building Community Day engaging dozens of teammates! We built benches for SupportWorks Housing Cool Lane property in partnership with ToolBank USA - and then we assembled welcome kits for new residents. We capped the morning off with the ERGs’ resource fair lunch. Thank you Sarah Fernald for your hard work managing all the moving pieces to make this day a success! Earlier this month, over 150 people joined us to celebrate the opening of our latest supportive housing community. It’s exciting to see so many people supportive of and excited about affordable housing and ending homelessness, from neighbors to elected officials. It is especially in light of today’s Supreme Court decision in City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson, which ruled that people experiencing homelessness can be arrested for sleeping in a public place even when there are no other adequate shelter options provided. We know – and the evidence shows – that supportive housing is the solution to homelessness. Not criminalization. Several of our peers have released important statements on this ruling: ??National Alliance to End Homelessness ??National Coalition for the Homeless ??National Low Income Housing Coalition ??CSH, the Source for Housing Solutions ??Virginia Housing Alliance We join them in expressing our deep disappointment in this ruling. And we affirm our continued commitment to working with our peers and partners on expanding the person-centered, evidence-based model of supportive housing in our shared mission to end homelessness in Virginia.
