Founded in 1988, SupportWorks Housing (formerly Virginia Supportive Housing) transforms lives and communities by bringing together Virginia’s best support specialists and most experienced property developers to end homelessness—and saves our community millions of dollars in the process. Operating in Charlottesville, Central Virginia, and Hampton Roads, SupportWorks provides permanent rental housing integrated with appropriate levels of support services to chronically homeless individuals, veterans, and those with disabilities.     Last month, LMR alumni toured Cool Lane Commons, an 86-unit development by SupportWorks Housing, providing homes for individuals who are unhoused or earning 50% or less of the Area Median Income. The community includes fully accessible units, on-site support services, and amenities like a computer lab, fitness room, and community space. Built with sustainability in mind, it features solar power and furnished units for all residents.     URGENT ACTION: The White House directed the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to order all federal agencies to temporarily block activities associated with the obligation and disbursement of all grants, loans, and other financial assistance. The temporary pause is scheduled to go into effect at 5:00pm EST today: Tuesday, January 28. This action by the Trump Administration places life-saving programs that serve the most vulnerable Americans at great risk. In the short term, program staff—many of whom face homelessness and housing insecurity themselves—may lose pay. Services may need to be paused. With rent coming due for so many assisted with federal rental assistance, rent checks to landlords will likely be delayed. We need Congress to stand up and speak out TODAY against this latest action. We need YOUR voice to tell Congress what the impact would be of even a short-term disruption in obligation and disbursement activity to grants, loans, and other financial assistance in your community.     Cool Lane Commons can't stop winning awards! On October 30, our Real Estate Development team accepted the Community Collaboration For Impact Award for Cool Lane Commons at Historic Richmond's annual Golden Hammer Awards. Collaboration was a hallmark of this project - both Henrico County and the City of Richmond contributed funding to make the community possible. We love working with localities to develop regional solutions to homelessness!     What do you believe about homelessness? At SupportWorks, we believe that homelessness is solvable. Last week, several SupportWorks teammates attended one of our favorite events of the year - Virginia Housing Alliance's annual Housing Virginia's Most Vulnerable Conference.
