Our state staff has been busy with professional development the last two days in Indy. Earlier today, Foundation Director Jennifer Armstrong was elected to serve as treasurer of the LEAD Organization (National professional development organization for FFA Fundraisers). This evening, at the NASAE (National Association of Supervisors of Ag Education) Awards Banquet, we honored Alison Jones with her 5-year membership pin and Andy Seibel was elected to serve as treasurer of the organization. Our state staff is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with leaders from across the country to better serve Virginia FFA’s members, teachers, and stakeholders.

In 2018, Sally Weaver Shomo (retired AGED teacher from Augusta County) offered to paint five barn quilts to honor individuals who have left a mark on Virginia FFA. These quilts were offered at an auction or money was pledged to support an individual. As Sally was painting the 2’x2’ barn quilts, she also painted a replica quilt that is 1’x1’. These quilts will be sold on July 16 at the VAAE Conference evening activity. Bids will be taken for individual quilts and then as a set, whichever brings the highest amount. The winning bidder decides where the money will be used. This is a one-of-a-kind set! The first quilt was painted in memory of O.Beverly Roller, a longtime supporter of the FFA. Mr. Roller served as a National FFA Officer, a teacher, area supervisor and a State Senator while always supporting AGED teachers and FFA members. The second quilt was painted in honor of Turner Trice. Mr. Trice has been our FFA Camp Director both at Smithfield and Graves Mountain, touching countless FFA members in his dedication to FFA. The third quilt was painted in honor of Tess Seibel and all of our Virginia National FFA Officers. Due to Covid, the quilt was presented to Tess at FFA Camp for her years of service to VA and National FFA. The fourth quilt was painted in honor of all the AGED teachers who taught during the difficult time of the Covid pandemic. It was auctioned at the VAAE Conference. The fifth quilt was titled Founding Fathers and was dedicated to the Virginia Agricultural Education instructors with a 30+ year career of serving students and FFA members. If you're interested in bidding by proxy on these replica barn quilts, please message us and we'll set you up with a proxy bidder!
