How do you go beyond cost savings in procurement? How do you cut through AI hype to focus on real impact? At DPW Amsterdam Diarmuid O'Donoghue from BT Sourced shared his perspective on driving meaningful transformation. BT Group, one of the world’s largest telecom companies, manages 10,000+ suppliers and operates across 35-40 ERP systems. To challenge the status quo, BT Sourced launched the Digital Garage—an incubator dedicated to: 🚀 Innovation ⚡ Simplification 📊 Digitalization The Digital Garage enables BT Sourced to scout, pilot, and scale emerging technology that creates tangible value. Its impact has inspired procurement teams globally. As Diarmuid put it: 💡 “Seeing similar concepts emerge validates this approach and benefits the entire procurement tech ecosystem.” Since 2021, Suplari has been a key enabler for BT Sourced, providing faster, smarter insights beyond static spend cubes or dashboards. According to Diarmuid: 🖥️ “Suplari isn’t just a tool; it’s embedded in our daily procurement workflows. Our category managers can identify opportunities within two clicks—speed that was unthinkable before.” As AI continues to shape procurement, Diarmuid left us with a critical takeaway: 🤖 “AI is powerful, but it can’t be the strategy—it must support the strategy. Some think AI itself is a strategy. We need to shift that mindset and focus on its business benefits.” Watch the highlights from DPW featuring Diarmuid O’Donoghue 🎥👇 #WeSourceForABetterFuture #DigitalTransformation #AI #DPW2024 👀 Matthias Gutzmann Cyril Pourrat Jeff Gerber

Thank you for framing the debate, Daniel L. Smith. Procurement and finance must work together to unlock untapped datasets. https://lnkd.in/gSMQv9DK
Procurement said, "About $25M." Finance: "Minimally $80M." Same retail company and scope. _____ On a first call, a retail company procurement leader told me his company has about $25M in annual indirect spend. (Indirect = non-merchandise supplies and services used to run operations.) Then, the CFO connected me with his Controller (runs accounts payables). His estimate: $80M. 220% difference! How does that happen? Manual data entry. Ton of off-PO spending. Purchase cards everywhere. Purchases buried in store budgets. Wildly different spend category definitions. Distribution centers with shadow procurement. All this leads to a spend visibility problem. Procurement mostly sees "official" spend through negotiated contracts. AP has the ground truth on actual spending. Very different views. _____ Procurement↔️Finance team partnerships are the unlock. This particular company's duo started with spend visibility but didn't stop there - they collaborated to address those underlying problems.☝️ - Standardized spend categories. - Killed p-cards. Then, digitized POs and made them mandatory - Made preferred supplier buying super easy vs. policing unapproved purchases Outcomes: 🎯 reporting accuracy 👀 clear indirect spending insights 🏆 double-digit percentage savings But... before they fixed it, who do you think was closest to being right, Finance or Procurement? 🤔 #Procurement #Retail #RetailTech #RetailOperations
