Before Nobel Economy Awards Announcement Sometimes in life, sychronicity happens when what you do to benefit the community coincides with media exposure. On October 5 in my Spotlight talk at San Francisco Public Library system on AI and AI Robotics, I cited MIT Econ Professor Acemoglu his research that [2D] AI boost to the US GDP is less than 0.1%, substantially less than the significantly more optimistic numbers by investment bankers and consulting firms. I mentioned a potential AI bubble. Nine (9) days later, the Nobel Committee announced Dr. Acemoglu 's winning the 2024 Nobel Economy Award. https://lnkd.in/dwUUKBCZ In the same October 5 talk, I talked about my estimate that [3D] AI Robotics (Embodied AI) may contribute to the economy in the same order of magnitude as 2D AI. It will take time and vision to see this beyond the short-term hype. I hope this will be helpful to the society in coming years; and I have contributed to the realignment on allocation of financial capital and human capital. #NobelPrize #ai #airobot #airobotics #robotics

Our team conducted the "opening acts" for San Francisco Public Library system's introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and future; in its Tech Week started on October 5th. In the afternoon of?October 5th, we offered two AI and future events to help the public understand and have fun hands-on experience.?One is on AI and AI Robotics, for adults.?The other is for kids and family to participate. Both events were packed and full-house.?The kids and family event even felt like a carnival. In my talk, designated as a "spotlight" event by the library, I introduced both AI (2D) and AI Robotics/embodied AI (3D). I introduced some of the latest developments; including the lowest-energy-consumption physics-aware neural network from MIT's CSAIL. I also talked about AI hype and the reality.??The AI hype has gotten out of hand; many have?lost sight that AI is based on solid secondary education science and mathematics subjects, across unusually-wide multiple disciplines. CEOs often talk to the boards in the hype-up marketing talk, without basic understanding of what AI is.?Every startup nowadays is an AI startup. The bankers (Goldman Sachs Global Institute) and consultants (McKinsey Global Institute) projected AI's contribution to the US GDP at 15X to 35X (2023) to the ground-truth number from NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) 's 2024 research paper. In my estimate, AI Robotics technology can in fact boost?this country's GDP at the same order of magnitude?as 2D AI; yet it needs time and individuals with vision to appreciate this. What is a talk without a bit of humor??I showed robots (by Boston Dynamics) doing Tai Chi,?dancing, among other things.??The?attendees in their chairs were twisting and humming to the video.?Love it. hashtag #artificialintelligence hashtag #AI hashtag #robotics hashtag #airobotics hashtag #liquidneuralnetwork hashtag #neuralnetwork hashtag #stemeducation hashtag #stem hashtag #robot hashtag #intelligentrobo

Supertech FT?(STFT) https://supertechft.org/ was invited to introduce the jobs in the AI robotics field in the?Job Readiness Program?at?LinkedIn’s San Francisco HQ.??The event was hosted by Code Tenderloin https://lnkd.in/gYgjqyP9 on?September 18. Two STFT board directors?Jesica Chavez ??????and?Albert Hu, PhD introduced this new field, high demand for talents, various jobs available in this field, and pathways to these jobs. Elvin Li and Melody Luo on site demonstrated an autonomous education version of home vacuum cleaner. AI Robots are?Roomba https://lnkd.in/gYgjqyP9?in your home,?Waymo https://waymo.com/?on the road,?warehouse robots in Amazon logistics centers, and sophisticated drones in the sky.?The market demand for AI robots has been fast and furious, sped up further by large amounts of venture capital and corporate investments.?However, the supply of talents has been hampered by no up-to-date and (secondary education) standards-aligned curricula and programs.?Partly this is due to AI robotics being a highly?interdisciplinary and fast progressing field, involving applied ethics, mechanical, electrical, software, and Artificial IntelIigence?(AI) subject knowledge. At Supertech FT , we tackle these issues head-on. STFT has been among the very first in developing future-ready NGSS-aligned https://lnkd.in/dpdF87G9 AI Robotics education programs.?Our learning science endeavors has been lowering unnecessary cognitive barriers for both students and teachers. We have developed specialized training programs for a robust education ecosystem to equip educators and learners with the knowledge, tools, and pedagogy to fulfill our mission: Inspiring future AI robotics technicians, engineers, operators, designers with the highest quality STEM education for all. #AIRobotics #FutureOfWork #EducationInnovation #JobReadiness #reskill #upskill #robotics #AI #artificialintelligence

Finding God and Latest Tech Trend in San Francisco Bus Stop This is a San Francisco bus stop photo I took on August 22. San Francisco bus stop ads?often turn out to be good indications of the latest tech job trend.? Four (4), five (5) years ago, the ads were about high paying data scientist / engineer jobs. Two (2), three (3) years ago, AI/ML engineer jobs. Now, it is robotic engineer jobs. We at Supertech FT (new name: Institute of Responsible AI Robotics) https://lnkd.in/gvA4HMxe are happy that?the world is finally catching up with us.?Our AI Robotics / Robotic Intelligence education program is a world apart from pure online offerings. We have teachers from mega techs and top universities. https://lnkd.in/gRWf2Zuj We are also moving on to the next big thing, built on AI Robotics, for the world to catch up with us 3 years from now.

Dr. Chris Paxton, ex-Meta Fair, ex-Nvidia, introduced Hello Robot's fascinating work on home robots. Home robotics is one of the most challenging yet also the most rewarding in the field of AI robotics. On one hand, a home robot needs to "understand" vague natural language instructions, "reason" to turn that fuzzy input into complex sequential multiple step actions. It also has to deal with partial observability. It is more than autonomy. On the other, could home robots eventually become a must-have, not unlike cars, in almost all households? The opportunity is staggering. A variety of powerful approaches exist for learning low-level skills or performing long-horizon manipulation, but these often assume access to model-based object detection and grasp generation. However, new approaches exist which allow for robots to plan and manipulate novel objects - building structures and rearranging scenes - while reducing these assumptions about task and object knowledge. Inspiring and insightful. Thanks to Dr. Chris Paxton. #ai #robotics #airobotics #homerobot

The 2024 San Francisco AI Robotics Youth program concluded on Friday, July 26. The size of this year's student cohort is twice that of last year's; and they have twice the hands-on learning fun. Our cohort also operated $500,000 worth of fleet of the latest commercial robots during their tech visit to the Silicon Valley. In the final survey, 88% (56% + 32%) of the cohort responded they will pursue or explore AI Robotics careers due to attending this program. They are the future movers and shakers in the AI robotics field, at the nexus where AI ecosystem (San Francisco) and robotics ecosystem (Silicon Valley) meet. Only in the San Francisco bay area. Compared to their perception of AI robotics in the beginning of this program, their one-word description of AI Robotics now includes "innovative", "bleeding edge", "fascinating", etc. The larger the font size, the more students responded by using that word. This year our teachers include c-execs with track records from dynamic startups Formant, InOrbit.AI and mega techs such as NVIDIA, Amazon Lab126, Microsoft, Apple, IBM, etc.; from leading universities such as MIT School of Engineering, India Institute of Technology, University of Cambridge, Yale University, @University of Surrey, Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, etc. Overall, an unmitigated success for our students, their parents, the city of San Francisco, and our nonprofit and industry partners. Thanks to all. #stem #stemeducation #ai #robot #robotics #airobots #nonprofit #dei #deib

This really filled my bucket ?? We put a group of students in charge of about $500K worth of the most advanced robotics and they had a blast. We recently welcomed a group of ~40 students ranging from high school to grad schol at the InOrbit.AI #RobotSpace to give them a chance to have some hands-on experience with the latest in #robotics and learn about the impact that #embodiedAI is having in our lives. Thank you Albert Hu, PhD for your wonderful partnership. SuperTech FT is a non-profit and mission-driven organization of volunteers for STEM education. They support kids, including many who otherwise wouldn't have access to advanced education programs, throughout the summer to prepare them for careers in engineering, math, computer science and the many disciplines related to AI and robotics. This is the second time we welcome a group of SuperTech students to join the ?????????? ?????????? ?????????? ????????. The participants form teams that compete to carry out the most tasks in the shortest time. The group doubled in size from last year, reflecting the growth of SuperTech's program. In the meantime we tripled the size of the Robot Space, grew the team and added many more robots thanks to our awesome ecosystem partners such as Instock.com, SICK Sensor Intelligence, OTTO by Rockwell Automation, THIRA ROBOTICS, WiBotic, Peer Robotics, Relay Robotics and many more. You can learn more about our events and activities at inorbit.ai/robotspace. At a personal level, this really made my day. The startup journey is long and not always easy, so hitting some high notes in this journey gives me the energy to keep pushing. Being able to make a contribution to the community and help demistify robotics is a core part of my personal mission at InOrbit, the "why" behind the hard work and the fuel to get over any obstacles along the way. (If you haven't heard the expression "fill my bucket", it's something I learned from my children. It's based on the book "Have You Filled a Bucket Today? A guide to daily happiness for kids" by Carol McCloud. The book teaches kids that other people’s happiness should matter to them. As adults, we can also be bucket fillers and feel happy when our own buckets are filled in return. )

The 2024 San Francisco AI Robotics Youth Program has just started. We received a surge of interests; the number of attendees has grown by 200% compared to last year. We asked the class to use one word to describe their perception of the field of AI Robotics at the start of this program; the attached is the results from more than half of the class, given only 5 minutes to respond. What is interesting is that the perception includes not only "innovative," "cool," "interesting," "essential"; but also "double-edged," "overhyped." Very healthy distribution of attitudes, in my personal view. The sizes of the words reflect the numbers of responses. The word "mysterious" also showed up, but small in size; which was dominant in size in last year's survey. My view is that this past 6 month there have been incessant announcements by the big techs: Tesla, Google DeepMind, Meta, Nvidia, etc. Furthermore, the Economist, Nature publications and other media all talk about AI Robotics. The public, students and their parents are no longer strangers to this field. This field, AI advancing out of 2D screens to 3D real world through robotics, is being seen and heard. An important note here is that AI is way more than ChaptGPT, learners will know. #stemeducation #ai #robotics #airobotics #ml
