Guaranteeing quality for solar PV projects ??? ? At #SolarQualityEU, SUPERNOVA organised two workshops exploring key innovations shaping the future of the solar industry - artificial intelligence (AI) for quality assurance and optimising data sharing. Here’s a glimpse into what we covered:? ? ? Leveraging the Potential of AI for Quality Assurance:? ? During the workshop, Gofran Chowdhury from?3E highlighted how AI is transforming the way we analyse, optimise, and automate solar PV plant operations, advancing from digital twins to digital triplets. ? ?? But how can AI tools be implemented effectively? ? Experts shared insights on:? - AI as a business driver for efficiency and growth - How generative AI can/will support Operation & Maintenance activities of plants? - Innovations like the "drone-in-a-box" system, which automates inspections, optimises operations, and maintains efficiency on large solar farms, even tracking plant growth around the panels ? Miguel Herrero Cangas from PVcase said: "The SUPERNOVA project will focus on developing advanced AI tools to improve the efficiency of solar PV plants. AI drives business growth and increases power demand." ? ? Optimising Data Sharing Between O&M, Asset Managers, and Owners? ? ?? Data is a valuable asset; however fragmented data sharing processes can create major inefficiencies and affect solar PV plant performance. ? This workshop explored:? - How solar PV data spaces enhance transparency and collaboration? - The importance of data sharing agreements (DSAs) for smooth operations? - Why data-driven decision-making is key to unlocking AI’s full potential in solar? ? During the workshop, Jelena Simeunovic from CSEM said: "The SUPERNOVA project will focus on making data sharing beneficial for everyone involved, from providers to users by creating a PV data space. We must ensure this data is secure & reliable so that we can improve our models for forecasting." ? A key takeaway? ?? Technology is only as powerful as the processes behind it. While AI, drones, and digital twins bring transformative potential, human expertise and thoughtful implementation remain invaluable. ? ?? This week, we're taking another deep dive into our project partners, looking at Eurac Research, #SUPERNOVA's project co-ordinator and a leader on #solar?? PV research. Eurac Research is a private research centre based in Bolzano, Italy, with a staff of over 600 people, and 12 laboratories. From studying solar PV performance and integrating solar into grids, to designing solar PV systems for buildings, researchers: ?? Study and improve the performance and reliability of solar PV systems under different conditions. ?? Analyse solar resources and manage their variability. ?? Develop and test solar PV solutions for building integration and electricity grids. ?? Partner with industry and public authorities. Their mission is to help the transition to a low-carbon society. This means also making solar PV technology more efficient, reliable, and accessible, something which Eurac Research is focusing on as part of the SUPERNOVA project.
