Gen Z is redefining Super Bowl Sunday – and it's all about gaming! ?? A new Super League & Virtual Brand Group Inc. poll of U.S. Roblox users (13+) confirms what we’ve long suspected: Gen Z prefers interactive entertainment over traditional TV viewing. While the Super Bowl remains a cultural juggernaut, audiences on Roblox (85M daily active users) have spoken - linear broadcasts do not hold their interest. ?? Key Insights: ?? 66% played Roblox for an hour or more while watching the Super Bowl. ?? 37% didn’t watch at all, weren’t aware it was on, or only tuned in for the halftime show. ?? 1 in 3 watched on a digital platform instead of TV. ?? Only 53% watched the full game. This data highlights a huge opportunity for sports organizations and brands to engage Gen Z & Gen Alpha through playable content and playable advertising in Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft, and mobile games. Perhaps the most eye-opening stat? Only 12% looked forward to the Super Bowl commercials. The brand has integrated into popular experiences like Duck Army and Color & Die. These experiences see between 5.8M and 36.9M monthly visits, giving the brand the opportunity to reach a broader audience. This activation reflects three key trends: ?? Brands launching multiple activations. In 2024, there was a 48% increase in brands releasing 3+ activations to engage audiences across platforms or experiences. ?? Deeper approaches to audience engagement. Other brands, like Superdrug or Cerave, have created Roblox obstacle courses (obbies) using their FMCG products, offering a more playful form of engagement than traditional in-store experiences. ?? Brands hedging their bets across multiple experiences. This helps brands find where engagement hits hardest, much like a diversified paid media strategy.
