We explore the vital contrasts between aftercare programs and extended care programs, emphasizing how extended care provides clients with a safe and structured environment to practice crucial life skills. Extended care is where the 'rubber meets the road', offering clients the opportunity to apply these skills for independent and sober living while still. With the added benefit of clinical support, our extended care program empowers clients to navigate real-life challenges, paving the way for lasting success!

"Empowering Recovery, Transforming Lives: Your Path to Lasting Sobriety Begins at Sunset House"
关于我们
Sunset House opened its doors in 1996 and has spent over the last 25 years helping men in early recovery from substance use disorder achieve lasting recovery. Sunset House is a DCF licensed level IV residential treatment program that is Joint Commission Accredited for its Behavioral Healthcare Services. As a supportive transitional-living facility, we provide care and structure beyond a traditional halfway house. Our on-site clinical staff provides tailored services for men transitioning from an inpatient facility to independent living. We help men 18 years of age and older, who are in recovery from a substance use disorder, and who have at least 30 days of continuous sobriety. The program works by gradually increasing independence among clients through clinical intervention and evidenced-based practices. Here at Sunset House, we believe that all men can achieve lasting recovery when they are given the tools, opportunities and education needed to gradually increase personal responsibility while transitioning to a better tomorrow addiction free.

Treatment completion doesn’t equal true sobriety. While successful outcomes and high program completion rates are important, they don’t always translate to lasting recovery. Our real mission should be helping people achieve long-term sobriety, because that’s what truly matters for those of us committed to making a difference

We are thrilled to share an insightful article penned by Frank Galimidi CASAC, CAP, CRADC, NCACII, ICADC, SAP, our esteemed Chief Clinical Officer at Sunset House Recovery and Executive Director at The Meadows Counseling Center LLC Frank's piece, "Breaking Boundaries: How Comic Books Took on Drug Abuse Despite the Comics Code Authority," dives into the unexpected role of comic books in the 1970s as tools for social change, particularly in addressing the then-taboo topic of addiction. Frank skillfully illustrates how iconic comics like The Amazing Spider-Man and Iron Man shifted from pure entertainment to platforms for raising awareness about serious issues, challenging societal stigmas around addiction, and promoting meaningful conversations. Incredibly insightful article from Frank Galimidi CASAC, CAP, CRADC, NCACII, ICADC, SAP, our CCO at Sunset House Recovery and Executive Director of The Meadows Counseling Center LLC. Frank’s extensive experience—spanning over two decades in substance abuse and mental health treatment—brings a deep understanding of the challenges faced by first responders and military personnel. His piece, Enhancing Emotional Resilience in First Responders and Military Personnel: The Case for Early and Ongoing Clinical Support Programs, highlights an essential shift in how we approach mental health for those in high-risk professions. Frank’s focus on the unique psychological demands these individuals face is powerful, especially his advocacy for routine, preventive mental health programs. The call to break the stigma surrounding mental health in these communities resonates, as does his emphasis on the need for a cultural shift that normalizes seeking help. By implementing early and ongoing clinical support, we can help prevent the devastating toll of untreated trauma and stress, which often lead to burnout, substance abuse, and tragically high rates of suicide. This holistic approach is not just proactive but essential. Ensuring our first responders and service members have access to mental health resources throughout their careers benefits both the individuals and the communities they serve. #MentalHealthMatters #FirstResponders #MilitaryMentalHealth #TraumaInformedCare #EmotionalResilience #SubstanceAbuseRecovery #SupportOurHeroes #BreakTheStigma #VeteranSupport #WellnessInTheWorkplace
