On this Veterans Day, we honor the contributions and commitment of those who selflessly served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Each veteran makes a positive impact in our communities through their service in and outside of the hospital. Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children's Hospital have more than 147 veterans on our care team. HCA Healthcare is proud to have thousands of military colleagues, having hired more than 60,000 veterans, active duty personnel and military spouses since 2012. Today, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have honorably served and their family members. Care team members at Sunrise Children’s Hospital helped little patients in the Neonatal ICU get in the Halloween spirit! No ghosts or goblins but costumes include a baby surgeon, a mermaid, Superman, pizza and more! This is a fun way to help families who have a baby in the Neonatal ICU still get to participate in their baby’s first Halloween despite being hospitalized.

We are excited to welcome 31 new Medical Explorers to the Medical Explorer Program at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, the only current Medical Explorer program offered in Las Vegas. The program is designed for high school students interested in healthcare careers. This program will include interactive presentations on Radiology, Pediatric and Adult Nursing, Pharmacy, and Emergency Medical Services. Additionally, Trauma Services will conduct a "Trauma Talks to Teens" session. We look forward to teaching them more about various healthcare careers!

10.1.17. Today, we remember those who passed and those who survived. We honor and thank our first responders, the entire medical community and our care team at Sunrise Hospital for the lifesaving care they provided that night. Seven years later, we remember the heroism, selflessness and the best of humanity displayed in the days to follow. Together, we are strong and continue to heal. We are #SunriseStrong. We are honored to share Heather H., RN, in our pediatric ER is the recipient of the HCA Healthcare Excellence in Nursing Award for Compassionate Care - one of HCA Healthcare’s highest honors for colleagues. A 33-year veteran of the Pediatric Emergency Room at Sunrise Children’s Hospital, Hurlburt has cared for young patients through unthinkable trauma with grace, skill and unwavering kindness. As a trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), her compassion allows her to balance supporting her patients through vulnerable situations, while ensuring critical evidence is properly collected and reported. In addition to her work at the hospital, she is a dedicated volunteer and spent 11 years working with the Advocacy Center for Sexually Abused Children, forging a strong partnership between the hospital, the Center and law enforcement. Heather’s dedication and commitment to her patients and our community is why she was chosen for this prestigious honor. Congratulations, Heather!

Thank you to Nevada’s first Lady, Donna Lombardo, and her daughter Lacey Alderson, for delivering an entire pallet of toys to Sunrise Children’s Hospital. Ranging from nerf guns to action figures and more, these will be great for our pediatric patients.

Today is #Juneteenth, a celebration and reminder of the official end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth was declared a federal holiday in 2021 to reflect on the history of slavery in the U.S., rejoice in the progress our country has made and to advocate for continued meaningful change.
