An untold story of development of SunMoksha's solutions!

In between the IEEE Smart Village sessions at the IEEE PowerAfrica Conference in Johannesburg, I heard the news of Mr Ratan Tata leaving us for the eternal abode. It was heart breaking. I have never met him, nor ever interacted with him. However, he has been an integral part of my journey at SunMoksha . Here is this untold story. It was in 2012 when I met Pramod Singh, heading the newly created Rural Electrification group at Tata Power. The meeting was just after the massive grid failure across northern India on July 31, 2012.?During our discussions, Pramod asked me, "Dr. Das, Tata Motors has Nano for the masses, what can we have at Tata Power?" I replied, "How about NanoPower?" And that triggered a series of brainstorming between me and my then colleague Sauman Das Gupta, and we defined NanoPower as an ecosystem of energy (Nanogrid), enterprise (NanoBiz), and education (NanoSkills), supported by software (NanoSoft), firmware (NanoARM), hardware (NanoGen) and Mobile App (Nanomobile) to serve the masses - access to affordable energy for the poor, under-served communities in rural India.?We successfully tested our first Smart Nanogrid protoype in exactly a year on July 31, 2013. We developed the prototype with a team of faculty, staff and students at NIST University, co-founded by my classmate Sangram Mudali (who also left us two months ago). The efforts were led by Bhawani Pattnaik for smart grid software/firmware and BP Pattnaik for renewable energy hardware integration. After several setbacks and umpteen design iterations, these "Nano" solutions are still touching the lives of the people in rural India. Here is a video https://lnkd.in/ejxkeigB created by Millennium Alliance on NanoPower, in preparation for our final pitch for the MA Award (which we won:-). Mr. Ratan Tata will live with us always, with our products and solutions. IEEE Smart Village (ISV) is supporting SunMoksha in its growth through funding, visibility and scaling its models across the globe. SunMoksha's #SmartIrrigation Project at #Kudagaon was recently funded by ISV, to add to the existing #Microgrid. We are delighted to share that the project was highlighted in the IEEE Technical Community Spotlight (Q3 Issue#2) by ISV President, Dr. Rajan Kapur. He emphasized that "SunMoksha exemplifies what we strive for at IEEE Smart Village: Impact through Community Engagement, Technology, Education and Enterprise.” Thanks to IEEE Smart Village to support us and proliferate our model globally.
