Sunland Cares: 2024 Recap What an incredible year of giving back! In 2024, the Sunland Asphalt family came together to make a real difference in our communities: ?? Volunteer Service: Over 450 hours of service contributed to shelters, farms, food programs, and organizations supporting foster children and veterans. ?? Donations: Nearly 10,000 items collected and donated, including canned goods, clothing, shoes, water bottles, and school supplies. ?? Fundraising: Over $20,000 raised for nonprofit organizations, thanks to employee payroll contributions and Sunland’s dollar-for-dollar match. This is just the beginning. Meet Sophia from Sunland Asphalt! What drew Sophia to the construction industry? Her family’s deep commitment to the company and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of women in the field. She’s passionate about fostering a more inclusive industry and actively participates in groups like the Young Constructors Forum and Building Women in Construction through AGC. Navigating a male-dominated industry comes with challenges, but Sophia embraces them confidently and purposefully. She focuses on building relationships, expanding her knowledge, and demonstrating her value through hard work and expertise. “Ask questions, stay engaged, and believe in your worth,” she advises. Sophia believes the construction industry should be a place where women can thrive at all levels. With more women in leadership, mentorship programs, and inclusive workplace cultures, she’s excited to see the industry continue to evolve. Her advice to young women considering a career in construction? "Don’t be intimidated. The industry offers incredible opportunities, and your skills and determination matter."
