Meet Mary from Sunland Asphalt! Mary’s journey in the construction industry began in 1999 as a construction flagger. Over the years, she worked her way up the ranks, eventually becoming a project manager overseeing a crack seal crew on a City of Las Vegas contract. After the project was completed, she transitioned to the role of estimator/project manager, where she spent 25 years honing her skills. Today, Mary brings her wealth of experience and expertise to every project she leads. Reflecting on her journey, Mary says, “I think women have come a long way in construction since I started in 1999 when very few women were in the industry. Being myself, I’ve always been confident in my skills, and my hard work and expertise have helped me navigate this field. I focus on consistently delivering high-quality work and exceeding expectations, which has earned me respect within my team. Building strong professional relationships has also been key to my success.” Her advice for women considering a career in construction? “Be confident in yourself and don’t be afraid to speak up. Construction is a great field for women, and you can excel if you don’t let stereotypes hold you back.” She also believes a supportive work environment and promoting qualified women to leadership roles are crucial for making the industry more inclusive. “Women should be treated as equals in the workplace,” she says. Mary’s story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance, confidence, and a commitment to excellence. ???? #WomenInConstruction #EmployeeSpotlight #BreakingBarriers #LeadershipInConstruction #WomenSupportingWomen #EqualOpportunity
