Sunfish Inc is diving into a new project! We're excited to announce that our #AUV is being deployed at Lafayette Blue Springs in Florida to conduct cave exploration, mapping, and water chemistry data collection.?This project, in partnership with the University of South Florida and the Woodville Karst Plain Project (WKPP), will cover over two miles of underwater cave in Lafayette Blue Springs. The AUV is equipped with a Seabird Technologies nitrate sensor, NBOSI CTD, DeepWater Exploration Inc. camera and an Imagenex Technology Corp. multi-beam sonar to collect high-resolution data.?This data will help us better understand the health of the Floridan Aquifer System and inform water resource management stakeholders.? Stay tuned for updates on our progress! #UnderwaterResearch #Hydrology, #WaterResources, #UnderwaterExploration

Diving Deep with the Superchargers! ???? We're cheering on the Superchargers Robotics Team as they prepare for the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE CHALLENGE competition on February 1st! This season, these young innovators are exploring the fascinating world of ocean exploration – and they're doing an amazing job! Back in November, Tyler Haden hosted the Superchargers at Sunfish Inc, where they learned about underwater robotics and gathered inspiration for their project.?We were so impressed by their curiosity and enthusiasm! We can't wait to see what they accomplish at the competition. Go Superchargers! ? #FIRSTLEGOLeague #ocean #exploration

?? SUNFISH AUV ?? played a crucial role in the "Our Submerged Past" expedition, exploring and mapping underwater caves in Southeast Alaska. These caves may have been used by humans thousands of years ago when sea levels were much lower. This research helps scientists understand the early human migration to the Americas. Watch the project video to learn more: "https://lnkd.in/gc4Nwwfk" By using the SUNFISH AUV, researchers were able to create detailed 3D maps of these underwater caves, a task that would have been challenging for human divers. The autonomous nature of the SUNFISH AUV allowed it to navigate complex underwater environments, gathering valuable data from previously inaccessible areas. #exploration #archaeology #Alaska #AUV

The Sunfish crew is presenting recent work in Florida’s incredible Jackson Blue Springs at #AGU24. Come by the Poster Hall Monday morning, H11X-1001 and chat with Vickie Siegel all about it. This effort utilizes the SUNFISH AUV to explore, map, and collect critical water quality and flow data in phreatic cave systems in Florida. These data collection efforts can be used to improve water resource initiatives in Florida by informing land management decisions, improving groundwater modeling efforts, and expanding knowledge of flow and pollutant transport. ?Photo credit and thanks to Nicole Alarid and the WKPP!

The Sunfish team had a great time using the SUNFISH AUV to assist Dr. Monteleone with her archaeological research in southeast Alaska. Join Sealaska Heritage Institute's Dr. Kelly Monteleone and Sunfish CTO Dr. Kristof Richmond tomorrow to hear all about this NOAA Ocean Exploration project!
Tomorrow, September 4, at 12 pm?AKDT,?the Sealaska Heritage Institute is hosting a (free!) virtual lecture on submerged archaeology and the role of Indigenous knowledge and advanced robotic technology in exploring Southeast Alaska’s submerged caves and rock shelters.
