Some might see this Solo Stove x Snoop controversy as a cautionary tale about the risks of high-stakes, celebrity-driven marketing. Others argue that it's not the high stakes but the short leashes of bean counters that stifle truly groundbreaking marketing ventures. So I poked around the Meta Ads Library to see how Solo Stove had been leveraging that Snoop content causing all the fuss. I assumed I’d see lots of Snoop versions and Doggfather cutdowns among their hard-working, lower-funnel assets. Why make that big upper funnel bet without securing the Q4 bag, right? Match your high-flying upper funnel splashes with solid conversion work. Here’s what I found. Though Meta tracked more than 100 discrete ads from the Solo Stove account in Q4, there’s not a single Snoop-centric ad on Facebook or Instagram. None. Creativity isn’t under attack here. I'm neutral about the product/ambassador fit. However, adapting Snoop content to deliver lower funnel performance metrics might have shifted the entire narrative. For a company like Solo Brands, focused on ROI, demonstrating how a campaign translates to revenue is crucial. Show the tangible returns from a partnership like Snoop's, and you earn the freedom to pursue creative risks. Interestingly, just two days post-CEO firing, the first paid social ad featuring Snoop surfaced. Coincidence? It seems the strategy shift might have been a little too late.
