Using overhead gantry cranes, the team at the Ticonic Bridge Replacement project in Waterville/Winslow, Maine, demolished the first half of the concrete bridge deck and steel girders earlier this spring. Simultaneously, they completed the concrete pier and began construction of the new abutments in preparation for receiving the new girders this summer. These girders, up to 150 feet in length and weighing over 140,000 pounds each, will support the new utilities and concrete bridge deck. Next to the bridge, another project is underway. The Lockwood Mill Redevelopment project involves renovating a 150-year-old textile mill building into over 60 new housing apartments and commercial space. The six-story building will have new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems installed, along with a complete masonry restoration, a new roof and new aluminum windows.
