Recent studies estimate that between?20% to 40% of cancer patients?use cannabis or cannabinoids to manage side effects from both the disease and its treatment. The?National Cancer Institute (NCI), a part of the?National Institute of Health?(NIH), underscores the growing demand for more robust scientific research on cannabis, especially as more cancer patients turn to it as a form of relief. Oncologists call attention to the urgent need to reschedule cannabis to facilitate further research and fill “the Cannabis-and-Cancer Information Gap”.

Isn’t it interesting how much attention this cannabis discrimination lawsuit is getting? Juan, a bisexual, Black, disabled vet—was told, “We don’t do stories on ongoing or just-filed litigation.” Makes you wonder if it’s because he’s not in the financial position to get his voice out there, or if there’s something else at play. The question hangs in the air, doesn’t it? I almost posted about this yesterday, but I have to admit, I’ve got a real issue with companies that conveniently care about marginalized groups only during specific times of the year or when it’s trendy. If you truly care, show it year-round. Donations and support shouldn’t just be for the photo op. Ask James, we don’t do pandering—just genuine support for real causes. But anyway, back to business as usual. (Apologies for the mini-rant… maybe a morning show would be a good fit, huh?) And to give credit where it’s due: despite everything with nuEra Cannabis, at least I was given a heads-up that helped some of my friends avoid unnecessary legal hurdles. It’s ironic—I used to be welcomed at the table until I became “too expensive” to keep around. I wonder, did they think the easier route was to cut ties and ghost me rather than keep me a partner and honor contracts? Turns out, having truth on your side brings support and resources in unexpected ways. And a voice? That’s one thing no one can put a price on…. Or expected from me. According to research in the journal Addiction, the number of regular marijuana users has surpassed regular drinkers for the first time in history. Legalization contributed to the rise in marijuana consumption, as did the belief that the product must be safe because it has medicinal properties. But although some people benefit from legitimate medical uses, such as cancer patients with intractable pain, hundreds of scientific articles have documented the short- and long-term dangers the substance poses to recreational consumers. In addition to impaired judgment and the possibility of developing cannabis use disorder, a 2024 study in the Journal of the American Heart Association links daily cannabis use with a 25 percent higher risk of heart attack and 42 percent higher risk of stroke. Another study, in JAMA Otolaryngology, reported that heavy cannabis use was associated with an eightfold increase in laryngeal cancer. And a plethora of research has linked regular marijuana use with schizophrenia, psychosis, suicidality and worse cognitive function.
