SUM makes outside easy. SUM brings the benefits of time spent outside - focus, calm, insight, connection - to people and groups who need it. We curate and lead wellness outings, trainings, retreats and more - all outside, and close to Chicago. We prioritize experiences in Chicago’s Southland and Northwest Indiana. We focus on procurement, hiring and partnerships that are local and supportive of communities frequently excluded from the benefits of experiences outside. Whether yours is a workplace group, a social organization, a class or a group of friends, SUM works with you to understand your needs and aspirations, and then we customize an experience or set of experiences around you. And while we believe everyone can benefit from time spent outside, we know that is disproportionately difficult for some. Our model ensures that welcoming, inclusive, purposeful and memorable experiences outside are available to all. SUM’s our name and our philosophy. It means everyone + outside. It means restorative experiences, new amenities and unique partnerships. It means more people spending more time outside in more ways. SUM means the total positive impact of all that. SUM is a registered 501(c)3, founded in 2022.

A few observations from an awesome retreat w/ Illinois Institute of Technology MA and Lila Self Leadership Academy: - #IndianaDunes #NationalPark in winter is evocative and inspires awe. Plus the beach is a canvas for creativity. - There is something about a train ride (even a 50 minute one) that makes you feel… away. Thx NICTD South Shore Line. - A fire does wonders for discussion. Soup does wonders for morale. - And a memorable experience will be a more meaningful experience, which is the whole point. I am honored and excited to be joining the Parker Administration as the Chief Housing and Urban Development Officer next month. 2 years ago our APA? conference was in #Philadelphia and I fell in love with the City. Today I was in there as part of Mayor Cherelle Parker’s announcement for her innovative Housing Opportunities Made Easy (H.O.M.E ) Initiative. The Mayor signed an Executive Order convening many of the major stakeholders-public and private- that produce and preserve housing in the city. The H.O.M.E. Initiative is comprised of five key components directed to cut the red tape to provide input in order to implement and achieve the objectives of this initiative: 1)The Establishment of an Advisory Group 2) Identifying City Entities Responsible for Implementation 3) Quasi-Governmental Land Holding Entities Collaboration 4) Objectives and Responsibilities Under the H.O.M.E. Initiative, which includes identifying key barriers and opportunities, recommend solutions to streamline government processes, and promoting the creation of ‘Affordable Luxury’ everywhere and 5) Collaborating and Engaging with Key External Partners. Thank you to all who welcomed me today and I look forward to working together to continue to make Philadelphia a safer, cleaner, greener city with housing opportunities for all.
