Financial Times covers the growth & expectations in the #satellite connected phone market that Vodafone's Margherita Della Valle said will bring 'mobile service to those areas that we would never have reached'. Novaspace estimates the market could generate service revenues of up to $42B over the next decade. Apple invested $1.7B in Globalstar to offer emergency texting service on iPhones in areas without mobile networks & could also enable iPhones for SpaceX's Starlink service. AST SpaceMobile enabled a Vodafone video call & has attracted $2B+ in investment. Tim Farrar consultancy & Summit Ridge Group, LLC's J. Armand Musey, CFA highlighted spectrum challenges in an extensive study that found that emergency & texting services delivered the most value in mobile black spots. Tim Hatt at GSMA Intelligence said "over time, as #satellite operators add more capacity, speeds are expected to increase, but they will remain lower than those of terrestrial networks". Globalstar's CEO, Paul Jacobs shared that 'there are a lot of discussions about what I'll call Netflix in the mountains.. but that is an unproven market.' ...
