This week, our amazing 4th grade Triad students rolled up their sleeves to support Reading Revolution, a local organization that provides books to children in need. From placing Reading Revolution stickers inside the books to carefully sorting them by age group—babies through K, K-2, 3-5, and middle school—our students put their hearts into helping our community. Every book shared helps spread the joy of reading! @readingrevolutionws?#SociallyResponsible?#InspiringLearning

Last week, six members of our faculty and staff attended the National Association of Independent Schools, People of Color Conference, themed “Meeting the Moment: Anchoring and Enriching Our Education Futures.” The days in Denver were filled with diverse opportunities to connect with educators from across the country. Participants engaged in school visits, shared insights, and collaborated on strategies aimed at enhancing our educational practices. These experiences are crucial in upholding and elevating our Belonging Statement. A highlight of the event was when our own Donza Friende, Assistant Director of Admissions, performed in the choir during the closing session, earning well-deserved cheers from the group! ?? Student voice is celebrated every day at Summit. And election season gives us a once-every-four-years opportunity to connect that principle with learning more about our country's electoral process. This isn’t just something we “have to” do – it’s a moment we “get to” embrace together. Our faculty approaches election season as a unique opportunity to deepen understanding and spark curiosity about the U.S. election process. By weaving election lessons into our curriculum and fostering discussions, we aim to empower students to engage thoughtfully on all kinds of topics. Summit's approach to civil discourse is grounded in the commitment to our core values – being prepared, honorable, curious, accepting, and socially responsible. We encourage students to actively listen, respect diverse opinions, and seek out new perspectives – which strengthens the fabric of our inclusive learning community. Election Day isn’t just an event; it’s a time for our entire community to connect with our democratic principles and grow together. #StudentVoice?#CivilDiscourse?#FutureLeaders?#Honorable?#Curious?#Accepting?#SociallyResponsible?#Election2024

This year's International Dyslexia Association (IDA) conference took place in Dallas, TX, where Lisa Buschek, Director of Triad, had the pleasure of catching up with one of our own, Hunter Peterson, Class of 1987. Hunter, now a board member of the Dallas IDA branch, shared some of his favorite memories from his time at Summit. Diagnosed with dyslexia after Kindergarten, Hunter was part of the Explorer program, which addressed reading and writing challenges. He valued the strong sense of community at Summit and always felt known, supported, and respected, and built close relationships with both teachers and staff. Now as a successful entrepreneur and a managing partner at the equity investment firm Skylark, Hunter's journey is a testament to the impact of perseverance, community support, and education. #IDAConference?#DyslexiaAwareness?#DyslexiaAwarenessMonth #OrtonGillingham Hunter Peterson Lisa Buschek International Dyslexia Association The International Dyslexia Association - Dallas Branch

Our 7th grade Digital Arts students are diving into the world of music production with Ableton, a professional audio production software. They’re learning to produce and arrange their own music while exploring song forms like chorus, verse, bridge, and more. Students learn specific rhythm patterns, melodies, chord structures, and progressions using MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) instruments. With a mix of minor and major scales, students are crafting complex melodies, creating chords, and composing original tracks. They're even learning basic audio engineering techniques and live looping for performances. It’s amazing to see their creativity come to life as they launch their own original compositions!
