Big moves in Utah! Marla Ranieri, DPT, OCS always brings the energy, and this is HUGE ???-- Utah now recognizes PTs as Primary Care Providers! • The Hidden Price of Cheap CEUs: Why Cutting Costs Can Cost You More When it comes to continuing education, the lowest price often comes with the highest hidden costs. If you’re a healthcare leader, educator, or professional committed to lifelong learning, you’ve likely encountered CEU options that seem like a great deal at first glance. But have you considered what they’re really costing you? ?? The Reality of Lowest Cost CEUs At a lower price point, many CEU providers deliver generic, one-size-fits-all content that lacks depth, engagement, and clinical relevance. The impact? Minimal interactivity, poor knowledge retention, and an increased likelihood of compliance gaps—which could mean additional training, accreditation risks, and even potential liability. Beyond compliance concerns, low-quality CEUs can lead to disengaged professionals, higher turnover, and the need for ongoing retraining—all of which translate into higher long-term costs for individuals and organizations alike. ?? The Difference with High-Quality CEUs Investing in evidence-based, interactive CEUs—like those from Summit Education—does more than just check a box for licensure requirements. It provides clinically relevant, engaging learning experiences that translate directly to better patient outcomes, improved professional confidence, and long-term competency. Organizations that prioritize high-quality CEUs see measurable benefits: ? Higher retention of critical skills ? Better patient care and clinical decision-making ? Stronger compliance and accreditation track records ? Increased job satisfaction and professional growth ?? The takeaway? The cost of poor education isn’t just financial—it impacts careers, patient outcomes, and organizational success. Are you investing in real professional development, or just paying for a certificate? ?? • The Hidden Cost of PT Turnover—And How Rehab Clinics Can Stop the Bleeding Something is happening in rehab clinics across the country, and it’s costing more than most realize. Physical therapists—some of the best, most experienced professionals in the industry—are walking away. Not just from individual clinics, but from the field entirely. Outpatient rehab vacancy rates have climbed to 9.5%, nearly double the national average for other industries. But vacancies aren’t just a statistic. They’re a direct hit to clinic operations, patient care, and financial sustainability. When a therapist leaves, the scramble begins. Hiring a replacement takes time—an average of 49 days to be exact. And the cost? Replacing a single PT can run anywhere from 45% to 123% of their annual salary, factoring in recruitment, onboarding, lost productivity, and the impact on patient satisfaction. Burnout isn’t a buzzword. It’s a crisis. Physical therapists enter the profession to help people heal and regain mobility. But many find themselves drowning in productivity requirements, administrative overload, and a lack of clear career growth opportunities. Instead of feeling like valued healthcare professionals, they’re treated as replaceable assets. Over time, that reality pushes them toward new opportunities—or out of the field entirely. And when a PT leaves, the ripple effect is massive. Patients experience delays in treatment, remaining staff take on heavier workloads, and morale plummets. Before long, the cycle repeats—one resignation turns into two, then three. Many clinic leaders believe their biggest challenge is hiring, but the real problem is keeping the people they already have. Retention isn’t just about paying a competitive salary—it’s about providing purpose, growth, and long-term career pathways. The data backs it up: Clinics that prioritize professional development see 30% higher retention rates. And yet, many hesitate to invest in education and training because they see it as an extra cost rather than an essential strategy. If clinics want to stop the revolving door of PT turnover, they need a different strategy—one that prioritizes growth, engagement, and a sustainable work environment. That means: ? Building a culture of learning – Give PTs access to continuing education, mentorship programs, and leadership training. Show them there’s a future at your clinic. ? Developing clear career pathways – PTs who see long-term potential are far more likely to stay. Provide structured growth opportunities beyond just treating patients. ? Preventing burnout before it starts – Reduce administrative burdens, improve work-life balance, and give your therapists the autonomy they need to thrive. ??
