Wake up on a Saturday morning to do crazy workouts with your friends (Jennifer Parvin) - ? This past Saturday we held our annual Craze to Raise! The money raised from this goes back to our Annual Campaign. What's the Annual Campaign? Well, that's how we give back to our community. We use these funds to connect, support, and serve the people in our area with programs and services. 1 out of every 5 of our members are on financial assistance. These funds help us teach kids to be safe around water. They allow more kids to participate in youth sports. They assist cancer survivors reclaim their health after treatment ends. Our Summerville Family YMCA works hard to create a positive impact in our community through programs devoted to academic achievement, chronic disease prevention, swim safety, outreach, and strengthening youth and families. Last year we were able to provide more than $190,000 in financial assistance to members and program participants to ensure that no one is ever turned away from membership or programs due to an inability to pay. Over the next six weeks, we will focus on a YMCA program/department and the impact that these programs have in our community. This week is Togetherhood Week! Togetherhood is the YMCA's signature Social Responsibility program. The Togetherhood team facilitates projects each month, such as: school supply drives, Comfort Cases for foster children, a food drive benefiting the Lowcountry Food Bank, a supply drive and volunteering at Dorchester Paws, and the "A Place to Dream" Bed Project. What a wonderful morning spending time with staff, board members, volunteers, and the youth participating in our Summerville Family YMCA Youth Triathlon! The rain pushed out last night and we had clear skies for most of the event. Our staff, board members, sponsors, and volunteers are amazing! Sitting on the pool deck this morning watching these kids reminded me of how awesome the YMCA mission is.
