We strive for a better society by supporting Sukarya, a women-led, women-centric, women-focused GuideStar (India) Platinum certified grassroots level NGO in India, established in 1998. Sukarya through its holistic approach addresses all major issues of women living in the urban slums and hard-to-reach villages of Delhi, Rajasthan, and Haryana. Their innovative programs have been immensely successful in educating and empowering marginalized children, adolescent girls, and women by giving them access to non-formal education, primary healthcare, and economic opportunities while ensuring gender equality at the grassroots level. In the last 23 years, Sukarya has served more than six million people, especially women and children, living in more than 600 villages and 120 slums n Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan with a small annual budget of $300K. We look up to philanthropic organizations, individuals, and corporations for support to build the capacity of Sukarya so it can reach out to bigger communities in need to fight malnutrition and anemia among underprivileged women.

I love this time of year at Microsoft—it’s the Give Month! Today, I had the opportunity to participate in the 5K run with over 300 individuals. There was something magical about the day: the incessant rain that had been falling since morning stopped just in time for our run, giving us perfect weather for those sweaty miles, only to return right after! It was invigorating to be surrounded by such infectious energy, along with great snack arrangements and a massage station post-5K, all organized by Microsoft volunteers. Another special aspect of this year, it marks Microsoft’s 50th anniversary! I would like to share two causes I’m supporting this Give Month, and I invite you to donate and help. The first is Sukarya USA, a transformative movement dedicated to improving health and nutrition at the grassroots level through its Community Health Initiatives. These initiatives promote balanced diets and nutritional education, empowering women and children with the knowledge and resources to make informed health decisions that create sustainable impacts. As part of the Board for the Women in Data Center ERG, we are also raising funds this month for Women for Women International. This organization invests in women survivors of war and conflict, equipping them with social and economic skills to transform their lives. Women pass their knowledge to those around them, fostering a more just world where every woman’s voice, role, and contribution are visible and valued. Poshan Maah Celebration at Dhaani Village! On 10th September, Sukarya celebrated Poshan Maah at the Anganwadi Centre in Dhaani Village, Gurugram. The session, attended by Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and 50 women, focused on essential guidance about nutritious eating and healthy cooking methods. We emphasized the use of locally available, nutrient-rich ingredients to create affordable and balanced diets for families. Hygiene and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) were also key topics of discussion. We highlighted how maintaining proper hygiene practices can significantly reduce infections, enhance nutrient absorption, and ultimately amplify the impact of our nutritional programs. Our heartfelt thanks to the Consul General of India (Seattle), Mr. Prakash Gupta, our Advisory Board members, volunteers, donors, partners including Global Washington, University of Washington Department of Global Health, and The George Washington University- Milken Institute School of Public Health, Deputy Mayor of Bellevue Jared Nieuwenhuis, and Mayuri for their presence and participation in celebrating the 25 years of Sukarya NGO’s outstanding service to the marginalized communities. Here are some interesting stats: Sukarya has served more than 7 million women and children in more than 760 villages and 190 slums. In the year 2022-23, we have served: Delhi - 60,000 in 8 slums, Haryana – 2,50,000 in 22 slums and 30 villages, and Rajasthan – 90,000 in 30 villages. Under the #GenderEquality Program our reach since 2017: We have trained more than 10,000 adolescent girls. In the year 2022-23 alone, we have trained 5000 girls.
