RESUMES // Is The Resumé Dead? I would say almost. Resumes belong to the era of paper ?? where we would scan, view and sort applicants based on job titles and company names. But the world ?? has changed. We’re now looking for skills ?? and how quickly you can bring those skills into an enterprise and add value. So you’re going to need an optimised LinkedIn Profile. ?? Now for high achievers and senior leaders, I would also recommend your own name website. ?? Are you up for the challenge? Let me know if you need some professional assistance. #sueellson #linkedinprofile #careers

PUBLISHING WITH PURPOSE // Have you got something to share but not sure how to share it? ?? Do you have a formal education ??and possibly even some research ?? that you would like people to know about? So often, research gets published, ?? but very few people are impacted and able to apply that information. I have provided several presentations to Early Career Researchers over the years, but the same principles apply to anyone who wants to publish information online. I recently provided a pro bono presentation to members of Golden Key International Honour Society (one of several memberships I hold) that was hosted by Sonia Riverland. POEM // Bad Boss - are you suffering from Mondayitis? ?? Maybe it has something to do with your boss? Hopefully you will find some comfort here... Text, audio and description at https://lnkd.in/gEsMPKye You drew me in With words untrue But as time went by I became confused One minute you were happy And the next you were sad You disguised any truth And I imagined I was bad But I persisted in faith And did the best I could do I tried to keep communicating Even when I couldn’t get through By now I was buried In deep thick mud Silenced into submission An unflowering bud How do I choose Whether to leave or stay Will my bad boss win And keep ruining my day I’ll do my research And reconnect with my network I’ll manage the transition And find a way to make things work I’ll understand What I have to lose Ethics and honesty Will help me choose I will not be swayed By false charm or obligation I’ll remember my strengths And resolve this situation It may not be instant And take longer than I’d like To truly be me I’ll find my right Even if my decision Takes me backward I’ll stand resolutely And then move forward Like every challenge I’ve faced before I will overcome Of that I am sure On 18 January 2025, I received an email from a person in Australia which mentioned that they had read my poem on Domestic Violence and they felt it mirrored a similar experience they had been having in their workplace. They were concerned that younger people may not be aware of these issues and they asked if I would consider writing a poem related to workplace violence. I wrote back to this person and they provided a list of challenging workplace behaviours and these are alluded to in the above poem. For confidentiality reasons, I cannot provide their name or details or their type of workplace, but I would like to sincerely thank them for reaching out and raising this issue. When so many people leave a workplace because of a ‘Bad Boss,’ I could easily associate these types of behaviour with the theme of domestic violence. If you are struggling in your workplace, if you have access to an Employee Assistance Program (which is confidential), then I encourage you to start there. If not, consider other forms of counselling and support to manage the situation or manage your transition to a new role. I welcome feedback, insights and comments! With love, Sue Ellson ?? POEM // Teen Dating Violence By Sue Ellson Text, audio and description at https://lnkd.in/guPb37uh ? Young and naive Dealing with new sensations How to make sense of it all When society has expectations Of me, of others Of friend and foe When to say yes And when to say no When to say stop When to say go How to be safe How would I know And if I find myself Compromised or abused Who will believe me When I didn’t choose If I stay silent And deal with my pain Will the perpetrator Do it again If I’m still here To tell the tale Was I at fault Did I somehow fail Without consent I am not to blame If I regret something later There is no shame It may be hard To face this difficulty But I’ll find support And gain a new ability I’ll learn about recovery Beyond this crisis I’ll find my strength Without any vices In my process Of overcoming I’ll truly be me And keep becoming Unstoppable Nevertheless My victory Constant progress Never diminished I’ll find support As a self-advocate I will be taught How to survive How to rejoice How to thrive And keep my voice To speak my truth Without hesitation As I proceed Without obligation Any action I take Will be of my choosing My goal is to heal And get on with living On 28 December 2024, I was contacted by Kim Gomez, an Outreach Specialist from WomenShelter of Long Beach USA and asked if they could use my poem on Domestic Violence as part of a social media post on World Poetry Day on 21 March 2025. I mentioned that I also provide poems on request. They asked, ‘Would you be open to doing a poem about Teen Dating Violence (TDV)? Next month is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and we have a Youth Conference titled Unseen Scars: #KnowTheSigns.’ So this commission has now been completed above! I welcome feedback, insights and comments! With love, Sue Ellson ?? POEM // Intellectual Humility By Sue Ellson Text, audio and description at https://lnkd.in/gnt_N-m9 I could be right I could be wrong With intellectual humility I won't sound the gong I'll look, I'll listen I'll see other points of view I'll be open to ideas And seek the new I'll acknowledge mistakes Apologise if misconstrued Adjust and be flexible Be aware and valued I do not have all the answers On every topic around I'll maximise my strengths But keep my feet on the ground I choose to respect Alternative perspectives Knowing others is intelligent And that includes my relatives To truly be me I must know myself Wisdom helps manage The choices I am dealt Humble I will be With all ideas My mind's capacity Manages what it hears Without judgment And with empathy I'll be an active participant Of intellectual humility Today I attended a networking event hosted by the Glen Eira City Council (local council). I caught up with Marie-Claire Ross, GAICD, a Leadership Coach I met more than 20 years ago at a business event. We started chatting about the concept of leadership and she mentioned the term ‘intellectual humility‘ and my mind lit up! I have been attending the ‘Wisdom Within’ course at the Melbourne School of Philosophy with Dr Craig Hassed and this week, we covered ‘Knowing Thyself’ and the difference between being and becoming and how ‘Knowing others is intelligence; Knowing yourself is true wisdom’ (a quote from Lao Tzu). So I have reflected on both of these topics and created this poem, that I hope you can relate to and think about when dealing with some of the more difficult people we meet in life. JOB FOR NOW // Is it okay to have a job for now???? Yes.?Now there are three things that make up a good career. 1??Your values, those of your own as well as those of the people you work with and make sure they're aligned. 2??Strengths, your natural ones as well as your acquired ones. So for instance, I'm really good at accounting, but I hate it. But I've learned IT skills and I'm good at it, so I'm going with those strengths. 3??But the third one is context. That's your current circumstances. And it could be that right now the only thing that's going to work is this particular job. So don't panic, you can stay there a little bit longer and if you would like to become more aligned, please reach out. More resources at https://lnkd.in/gPVivJcd #jobfornow #careers #sueellson
