In the last week, six highly talented, well-compensated professionals have reached out to me about quietly seeking new opportunities. I'm sharing this because: 1) If you're hiring in sales, marketing/communications, operations, or non-profit management or fundraising, I may know the right candidate. Each person I've spoken with is someone I'd confidently recommend. 2) To those managing valuable team members: don't take them for granted. As Melissa Thompson, PhD recently advised one of our clients, conduct "stay interviews" to understand your key employees' satisfaction and potential flight risks. 3) These conversations revealed a pattern: While all feel conflicted about leaving, they cite: - Limited growth opportunities - Inequitable salary adjustments compared to peers - Lack of appreciation from leadership - Desire for more flexibility The good news? These are all addressable issues! Does any of this surprise you? Let me know if you'd like to connect with top talent or share your retention strategies in the comments. ?? #talent #retention #sales #marketing #jobseeker #talentmanagement

Do you remember where you were when the Challenger exploded? Or when 9/11 happened? These shared moments shape our thinking and how we engage in the workplace. During a recent workshop with Second Harvest Food Bank, we explored how generational differences, from Boomers to Gen-Z, influence communication styles and expectations at work. Understanding these differences is key to building inclusive, collaborative environments. For more key insights on generational differences, check out Adrian's newest blog post. https://lnkd.in/gbSJn9wv #SuccessionPlanning #GenerationalDifferences #Leadership #WorkplaceCulture #PeopleStrategy

Last week, my husband and I visited DC and made a trip to the National Archives. I was struck by how the statues at the entrance perfectly encapsulated the differences in our Clifton Strengths. Here me out... Two powerful figures guard the entrance: "The Future" and "The Past". As someone with Futuristic as a top strength, I was immediately drawn to "The Future" statue, with its intriguing inscription: "What Is Past Is Prologue". This resonates deeply with my tendency to look ahead and envision possibilities. I love to research technology, AI, and read sci-fi. My husband, whose top strength is Context, was naturally pulled towards "The Past" statue, its inscription "Study the Past" speaking directly to his ability to understand the present by researching its history. He loves to learn about military history, historical figures, politics and traditional sciences. It was a beautiful reminder of how our strengths complement each other. While I'm often focused on what could be, he grounds us in what has been. Together, we create a balanced perspective – understanding that our past shapes our future, but doesn't define it. My takeaway was that these statues aren't just art; they're a powerful metaphor for how different strengths can work together. Whether in relationships, teams, or leadership, embracing diverse perspectives allows us to honor our history while boldly stepping into the future. #CliftonStrengths #PersonalityAssessments #Futuristic #Context #LeadershipDevelopment Gallup U.S. National Archives and Records Administration

I think people often misunderstand team composition vs team compatibility. This month, I have already delivered 5 (!!) Gallup Clifton Strengths workshops, and I've noticed a recurring question: "How do I use this to build the ideal team?" While it's a natural thought, it might be missing the point. Here's why: ? Compatibility is created, not just discovered: I often say, "Your team is your toolkit." Instead of searching for the perfect mix of strengths, focus on understanding and leveraging the strengths of those already around you. ? Bolster your own effectiveness: By learning to work with diverse strengths, you enhance your own capabilities. You're not just building an ideal team; you're becoming a more adaptable and effective leader. ? Build others' capacity: When you appreciate and utilize others' strengths, you're investing in their growth and potential. This approach fosters a culture of mutual respect and continuous development. ? Ask better questions: Instead of "Are we compatible?", try "How can we become compatible?" or "How can we work together more harmoniously?" ? Embrace differences: Remember, seemingly opposing strengths (like Command and Harmony) can actually complement each other when understood and applied thoughtfully. The key takeaway? Don't try to create the perfect team composition. Start maximizing the potential of the team you have. It's not about finding the ideal puzzle pieces, but learning to fit the pieces you have together in the most effective way.
