Have you ever wanted to move on from something but had a hard time letting go? I have; I am a very sentimental person. When our daughter was in elementary school we bought a "new to us" family car - a 2012 silver Toyota Highlander. She is now a Sophomore in college! ? After 9 years and over a 100,000 miles the time came for our family to get another "new to us" vehicle. ? We saved diligently for several years and in 2023 when my husband and I created our financial goals for 2024 we knew this was the year we'd replace our Highlander. ? Even though I've known this day had been coming for a long time and I actually wanted a new vehicle - Do you have any idea how old the technology is in a 2012 car? It's so old! I've been transported into ease and efficiency with "new to me" additions like apple carplay, a much larger back up screen and safety features like driver assist. ? While I wanted these and other modern features in a vehicle, my heart is so grateful we had a reliable vehicle throughout my daughter’s childhood right up through moving her into college for the first time. ? This change, while emotionally tugging on my heart strings, wasn't difficult financially. Back in 2017 my husband and I adopted a habit of creating financial goals together. He's the researcher and I keep us on track with the budget. Before we started looking for a vehicle he asked me what features I wanted and I shared how much we had saved and could spend. ? Together we came up with a "new to us" vehicle must have list: ? 1.) Not silver! – like I have had for the past 20 of those years. This was non-negotiable. ? 2.) Heated seats, a car starter and dual climate control. ? 3.) Comfort, quiet and tow capacity. ? 4.) Fit our budget of $33,000 all in, including hitch for camper. ? I'm happy to share, we found the perfect vehicle for us! ? We went slightly over budget and have a vehicle that meets all of our needs AND a warranty. ? I'm thrilled to share that we got everything on our wish list and more from a local car dealer [TAG ALAN BYER FOREIGN AUTO] who made the entire process easy and enjoyable! ? My advice for purchasing a vehicle (or any financial goal): ? - Create your must-have list AND A BUDGET. - Research, test drive and find the best deal for you. - Negotiate; ask for what you want! - Explore options that are presented to you. In our case, it was the extended warranty. ? Even though it was hard for me to let go, we are looking forward to where the future takes us in our "new to us", not silver, Volvo SUV! #newcar #goals #budget #discipline
