SRS 32’s skipper promoted to Navy Captain this morning in front of his command and family. Capt. Jacob Hurt has been at the helm of the support squadron since August 2021 – then called NSSC - and has led the command to achieve numerous accolades. SRS 32 provides personnel, logistical, administrative, and training support to 24 submarine crews among 4 submarine squadrons across 3 waterfronts. Capt. Hurt’s day-to-day efforts helped keep the “Submarine Capital of the World” ready to “fight tonight.” His staff supported Groton’s waterfront during 4 changes of homeport, 10 deployments, 3 deliveries from the shipyard, 2 Commissionings, 2 Ice Camp Exercises, and 4 short-notice deployments. He also routinely participates in community events like this weekend’s first annual Iraq/Afghan wars commemorative program in Norwich (photos below). Capt. Hurt will turn over command next month and report to the Naval War College in Newport, RI for a staff position. From all of us at the #SubmarineCapitaloftheWorld, congrats Sir – well deserved!
