Last night at the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University, we celebrated the life and legacy of Edna Lewis with an unforgettable evening featuring the Richmond premiere of the VPM documentary Finding Edna Lewis. Guests enjoyed Edna Lewis-inspired bites from Leah Branch (The Roosevelt), Joy Crump (Foode), Mike Lindsey (Lillie Pearl), and Nikki Polk (Charlotte’s A Southern Deli), plus sweet treats from Rabia Kamara (Ruby Scoops Ice Cream & Sweets)—paired with expertly crafted cocktails by Chauncey Jenkins. Following the screening, we hosted a powerful panel discussion moderated by Shakia Gullette Warren, executive director of the The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, featuring Adrienne Petty, professor at William & Mary; Deb Freeman, host of Finding Edna Lewis; and Joy Crump, executive chef and restaurateur.
