关于我们
St. Vincent de Paul Louisville houses, feeds, and supports those in need with compassion and dignity. SVDP serves people in need, including those who are homeless, living in poverty, or suffering from addiction and mental illness, as well as those people who are in crisis or facing unexpected hardship. Through a continuum of care that includes food, shelter, affordable housing, counseling, quality out-of-school time programs for at-risk youth, and emergency financial assistance with rent and utility bills, SVDP assists people, regardless of their background or faith, with the goal of helping each person achieve self-sufficiency. SVDP operates a community kitchen (Open Hand Kitchen), a client-choice food pantry, Ozanam Inn men’s emergency overnight shelter, St. Jude women’s recovery center, four local thrift stores, an enrichment center serving at-risk youth in an after-school setting (Family Success Center), as well as supportive housing for homeless families and adults. The downtown campus has grown to address the varied causes of chronic poverty and homelessness including disability, addiction, and mental illness. Through a combination of specific shelter programs and professional case management support, men, women, and children are able to look toward a brighter future. With a continuum of care, SVDP provides shelter and permanent housing for up to 600 individuals including families both on campus and in scattered-site housing.

Communication Across Barriers President and Founder Donna Beegle shares her one of a kind story on how she broke free from the "warzone of poverty" after 26 years. As a national expert on poverty, Donna invites us to fight poverty, not the people experiencing it. She talks with David Calzi about how you can be poverty-informed, the different types of poverty, and how to effectively communicate it with those around you. Thanks to the Southwest Louisville Rotary Club for recently serving dinner at the Open Hand Kitchen! "The international motto of Rotary is 'Service above Self,' and we try to live that out in our small club as well. Serving at the Open Hand Kitchen is a way to connect firsthand with those in need. St. Vincent de Paul Louisville is the perfect organization for our club to support. Its long history of serving those in need, in a Christ like manner, lines up perfectly with our objective as a club to do the same." —Greg Daunhauer, President of Byerly Ford Nissan
