Attention Bridge Engineers and Designers: On November 14, 2024, AISC and NSBA will host a webinar that will preview the new AISC/NSBA standards that will simplify the design of hundreds of routine steel girder bridges.?The webinar will be presented by Francesco R. of Russo Structural Services.?These new standards cover bridges with 1, 2, 3, and 4-spans with span lengths ranging from 80 - 300 ft, and girder spacings of 8, 10, 12, and 14 ft, and are anticipated to be released later this year. The presentation will review the development of the standards and provide a walk-through showing how to use these standards to quickly design many short, medium, and long-span steel bridges. The presentation will also review the development of these standards, provide engineering and constructability background into their development, and discuss many details like cross-frames and field splices that are also provided. In early September, the last plate girders were erected for the Eastbound portion of the Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River (Rocheport) Bridge. The Westbound portion was opened in 2023. Stupp Bridge Company proudly fabricated 160 weathering steel plate girders and accompanying cross frames and lateral braces for these beautiful structures. The tallest girders are almost 13' tall and the bridge has a main span of 490'. Plate girders are a terrific choice for bridges over navigable water with spans from 200' to over 500' in length as they are lightweight to erect, can be optimized for multi-unit structures and are maintainable and repairable for a long service life. Last week it was our privilege to host a diverse group of engineers, contractors, students,?fabricators and community leaders at our American Institute of Steel Construction Steel Days event honoring the 25th anniversary of the opening of our Bowling Green, Kentucky plate girder manufacturing facility.?The day featured informative presentations, guided facility tours, networking, food and fellowship. Since its opening in 1999, our dedicated team of fabrication professionals have fabricated hundreds of thousands of tons of steel in Bowling Green for bridges that are in service all over the United States. ?We are blessed to work in a terrific area with wonderful teammates.?? Special thanks to Vin Bartucca of AISC for presenting on current National Steel Bridge Alliance resources and to our industry partners that took part by showing their products and teaching our guests about their company’s role in the fabrication process. From the Stupp Bridge Company archives, we are throwing it back 20 years to the Fall of 2004 with this terrific photo of the structural steel erection of The McKinneysburg Bridge which carries Browning-McKinneysburg Road (CR1117) over the Licking River in Pendleton County, Kentucky. We proudly fabricated and delivered over 1100 tons of weathering steel plate girders for this important bridge from our five-year old fabrication plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Our customer for this project was General Contractor Judy Construction Co of Cynthiana, Kentucky. The bridge was designed and owned by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet KYTC Careers. All of us at Stupp Bridge company are grateful for the opportunities that we have earned to serve the Commonwealth.? We are thrilled to announce that Scott Bullerdick has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of our Steel Erection Divisions, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career. Scott's journey with us began in 1996, and his rise through the ranks is a testament to his dedication, expertise, and leadership. Scott's career started long before joining our team, with his roots in the Ironworkers Local 22, where he became a member in 1989. His foundational skills and commitment to the trade laid a strong groundwork for his future roles. On January 15, 1996, Scott joined Ben Hur as a Raising Gang Foreman at the Chrysler Foundry in Indianapolis. His work ethic and leadership qualities quickly set him apart, leading to his promotion to Project Manager in 2001. In this role, Scott managed numerous high-profile projects, showcasing his ability to deliver results and manage teams effectively. In 2007, Scott was promoted to Division Manager, where he oversaw operations, project execution, and strategic initiatives for the division. His tenure in this role was marked by significant achievements, including the successful completion of complex projects and the implementation of operational efficiencies that drove growth and profitability. Scott's transition to the role of COO for the Steel Erection Divisions is a natural progression, given his deep understanding of our company's operations and his proven leadership capabilities. As COO, he will oversee all operational aspects of the erection divisions, ensuring that we continue to deliver on our commitments to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. We are confident that under Scott's leadership, our company will continue to thrive and achieve new heights.
