Congratulations to the Class of 2024! As the year draws to a close, graduation season is in full swing, marking a monumental milestone for students around the globe. On behalf of the American Study Abroad Program, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all who have successfully completed their courses. Graduation is more than a ceremony—it's a celebration of years of hard work, perseverance, and growth. For those who took the bold step to study abroad, this achievement is particularly special. Balancing rigorous academics with the challenges of adapting to a new culture and environment requires resilience and determination. Each graduate is a testament to the power of ambition and the possibilities that come with pursuing an education overseas. As you embark on this next chapter, we offer you these words of encouragement from economist Milton Friedman: "The only way that has ever been discovered to have a lot of people cooperate together voluntarily is through the free market." Let this remind you of the endless opportunities that await when you take initiative, embrace collaboration, and pursue your goals with determination. To the families, friends, and communities who supported these graduates, your encouragement has been a vital part of their journey. This moment belongs to you as well. At the American Study Abroad Program, we are proud to have been a part of your academic journey. For those considering studying overseas, we’re here to help you take that first step toward your dreams. Once again, congratulations, Class of 2024! The world awaits your brilliance. #Graduation2024 #ProudGraduate #StudyAbroadSuccess #ClassOf2024 #GlobalEducation #DreamBig #HardWorkPaysOff #NextChapter #FutureLeaders #WorldwideGraduates

The Journey to Thanksgiving: How It Became an Official Holiday Thanksgiving, a cherished holiday in the United States, is a time to gather with loved ones, express gratitude, and indulge in hearty meals. But the path to its official recognition as a national holiday was far from straightforward. Its roots and evolution tell a story of unity, persistence, and the vision of key historical figures. The origins of Thanksgiving date back to 1621, when the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Native Americans shared a harvest feast in Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts. This gathering marked a moment of collaboration and survival after a harsh winter, though its representation in history has since sparked nuanced conversations about colonial and Indigenous relations. Despite its historical significance, Thanksgiving was not initially celebrated as a recurring national holiday. For over two centuries, various states and regions observed Thanksgiving on different dates, with no consistent tradition. Enter Sarah Josepha Hale, often referred to as the “Mother of Thanksgiving.” A prolific writer and editor, Hale spent decades campaigning for a unified Thanksgiving holiday. Beginning in the 1840s, she wrote editorials, letters, and even lobbied multiple U.S. presidents, emphasizing the importance of Thanksgiving in fostering national unity, particularly during the divisive years leading up to the Civil War. Hale’s efforts bore fruit during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. Amid the Civil War in 1863, Lincoln issued a proclamation designating the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving. Lincoln framed the holiday as a means to reflect on blessings, seek healing, and bring the war-torn nation together. His proclamation cemented Thanksgiving’s place in the American calendar, though its exact date remained fluid. In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt stirred controversy by moving Thanksgiving up a week to extend the holiday shopping season during the Great Depression. This decision, dubbed “Franksgiving” by critics, led to confusion and public outcry. Congress intervened in 1941, passing legislation that officially set Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November. Today, Thanksgiving is a time-honored tradition, blending history, gratitude, and family togetherness. Its journey to becoming an official holiday serves as a testament to the power of advocacy, adaptability, and the enduring spirit of unity in America. #ThanksgivingTraditions ?? #HolidayHistory ?? #GratitudeSeason ?? #UnityThroughHistory ???? #AmericanCulture ?? #HistoricalMilestones ??? #ThankfulTogether ?? #HeritageAndHistory ?? #LincolnLegacy ?? #ThanksgivingStorytelling ?? #FestiveSeasonStarts ?? #CelebrateUnity ?? #NationalHolidays ?? #CulturalReflections ?? #GratitudeJourney ??

The Post-9/11 GI Bill continues to play a transformative role in the lives of U.S. veterans, empowering them to pursue higher education opportunities worldwide. A closer look at the top 10 countries hosting the most GI Bill recipients reveals some fascinating trends, reflecting both the appeal of international education and veterans’ diverse preferences for study destinations. ENGLAND LEADS THE PACK England ranks as the most popular destination, hosting 192 veterans—22% of all recipients studying outside the U.S. The country’s globally renowned universities, such as the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge, as well as its historic ties to the United States, make it an attractive option for veterans. England's welcoming academic environment and ample English-taught programs are significant draws for GI Bill beneficiaries. PHILIPPINES: A SURPRISING SECOND With 135 recipients (15%), the Philippines claims second place. This may be attributed to its affordable cost of living, widespread use of English in academia, and proximity to the United States. The Philippines is also home to several institutions with U.S. accreditation, allowing veterans to make the most of their GI Bill benefits while pursuing degrees at significantly lower costs compared to Western countries. POPULAR CHOICES ACROSS CONTINENTS ? Canada (7%), Scotland (7%), and Australia (7%) round out the top five. These countries benefit from strong educational infrastructures, cultural similarities to the U.S., and high-quality universities. Scotland, in particular, is emerging as a destination for niche programs in archaeology, sustainability, and engineering. ? Italy (6%) and France (5%) follow closely, offering a mix of world-class institutions and opportunities to immerse in rich cultural histories. ? Thailand (5%) stands out for its vibrant culture, warm climate, and growing academic reputation, particularly in business and tourism studies. ? Ireland (4%) and the Czech Republic (2%) complete the list, appealing to veterans seeking smaller, highly focused programs or unique cultural experiences. WHAT DO THESE TRENDS REVEAL? These statistics reflect the evolving priorities of veterans in higher education. While traditional destinations like England and Canada remain favorites, the increasing appeal of countries like the Philippines and Thailand indicates a shift toward affordability and non-traditional study experiences. For many veterans, studying abroad offers not only an education but also a pathway to broaden their horizons, immerse in different cultures, and build a global perspective. CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES Despite the advantages, pursuing education abroad can present challenges, such as navigating visa requirements, cultural adjustments, and limited awareness of GI Bill compatibility at foreign institutions. This is the exact reason American Study Abroad Program was developed, to be your advocate and to help you Go Further! #studyasap #gibill #studyabroad

This article between Donald Morgan, AIF?, CPFA? and Sarah Johnston was excellent! There is some true advice for those suffering huge financial debt from pursuing higher education. Don't forget, education debt is a risk is one's life and it's up to you to decide how to approach it. There are generally 3 means of approach: 1. #Avoidance would simply not pursuing education which will mean no potential for education cost. 2: #mitigation would be something like paying out of pocket from savings or benefactor, such as family, non-profit, friend/relatives, military/state/government education benefits. 3: #acceptance would be knowing that you believe the value of the degree is worth more in the long run than the money spent to pursue it. We believe that you can do #2 or #3 by studying your bachelor’s at a more affordable university overseas and then pursue the master's at a more reputable university, ultimately saving time and money. #risk #financialdebt #collegedebt #educationdebt #universitydebt #studyasap
